View Full Version : 【Bug】 No phrase searching over multiple lines

We have an issue where searching in 64 bit MOSS on an exact phrase will not return a result if the phrase goes over > 1 line. For example if the text in a document says...

this is the first line
and this is the second

A search for "first line and" will not return a result for that document.

This is pretty serious problem for us as people often do exact phrase searches and the chances are many of them will go over a line.

I've tested this on many documents and it seems to be a problem on all of them so far.

hello ,
Thank you for your feedback.
Could you send a sample file to us for testing?
Thank you for your help.
Emily

All the documents are classified I'm afraid, but I will try to replicate the issue by creating an unclassified document tomorrow.

In the meantime I have used the iFilter with WDS to test, and it does appear to work fine there so I think there's an issue with the use of the iFilter in MOSS.

Anyway will hopefully create a document tomorrow that you can use to replicate the issue.

I uploaded this innocent vacuum cleaner PDF file, and it has the same problem.

Some example searches that return no results in MOSS but are in the document over multiple lines...

"mounted within three" on page 2
"Louvered doors fulfill" on page 2
"excess cement" on page 4

Any text that goes over onto the next line will not return.

Remember these are phrases searches, so use the double quotes around it as shown above.

The dilence is deafening, both on this issue and the 32 bit one. Hello? Anybody out there from foxit actually want to respond? Paying customer here!

Hello Philipe, if you need help, send an e-mail to: support@foxitsoftware.com

It's a lot easier for developers to check that e-mail address than to check the forums. I've passed this on to development.

Hello Philipe,
This issue is associated with the setting of MOSS, not Foxit PDF IFilter.I will keep looking into the setting of MOSS, meanwhile, would you please help to check it ?

Thank you very much,
Emily
