For some reason, the Foxit plugin has been opening PDFs in the Foxit viewer instead of within Firefox. In Firefox, I receive the following error message in my Firefox browser.

"Navigation to the webpage was canceled."

I've tried unintalling/reinstalling Foxit (including the plugin), but I'm still having this issue.

I've also tried reinstalling Firefox over my current installation.

I'm very hesitant to uninstall and then reinstall Firefox, since I have the browser customized in many ways and its profile is synced between my office (Windows XP, 32bit) and home (Vista, 64bit) computers. Plus everything seems to be working fine on my office computer, so I wouldn't think the problem would be with Firefox, since Firefox is essentially cloned on my home computer.

I solved the problem. Although I had been running Foxit as an administrator, I was not running Firefox as an administrator. When I ran Firefox as an administrator, pdfs started opening in the browser.

For others' reference (although this has been mentioned before), to run a program as the administrator, right-click on the program's icon, go to the "Compatibility" tab, look for a box label Privilege Level and select the "Run this program as an administrator" box. Click on Apply, then Ok.

Unfortunately, the apparent downside of having to run Firefox as an administrator is that you get an error message whenever you open a shortcut html link on your desktop (which I do quite frequently). Specifically, the following error message:

"Windows cannot find 'link'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."
