Is it only me in Win98, or someone else also having the same problem:
after Foxit starts fast with or without opening a file, it remains unresponsive for 2-3 min, like looking for something. I think, it started long ago after installing some Foxit plugin - Jpeg or Indexing. And it keeps the same behaviour, despite upgrading to new Foxit versions. How can I fix that? It doesn't happen, when using Foxit Plugin from a browser.

Hi zamar, thanks for your posting here.

I am sorry to say, Foxit Reader recent versions like v2.3 and 3.0, doens't support Win98. You can still run it in 98, but as you can see, you will experience a certain problem since some functions and modules in Reader require higher system environments.

Thanks for your understanding.

Hi Christina,
I appreciate your reply. However, I need more detail advice from a developer, exactly why this happen, what Foxit is looking for. You see, everything was OK before, but after install of one plugin Foxit become unresponsive at start just for 2-3 min, and then most things I use work properly. It looks like if I clean the Register or uninstall something, it can fix the issue. I can't use another PDF Reader due to limited hardware resources. So I need advice. I like Foxit a lot.

Also wanted to ask, is it possible to use your browser plugin with older Foxit versions, or it only works with V3? When I try to fill out a Form in browser, Foxit eats up my little remaining free RAM at once.

Let me know which foxit reader version you are using? When you're running under 98, we don't encourage you to install plugins or add-ons that needs higher resource support. They will most probably cosume your memory when they are being used.

"...is it possible to use your browser plugin with older Foxit versions, or it only works with V3?"
---Yes, browser plugin only works with v3.0 and later version. If you're using an earlier version, you will experience crash or infinite loop when opening files within Firefox.

If these info is not enough, let me know, I will then talk with our developer. Thanks.

Thanks Christina.
Foxit is a great program, I know my system is old. I was using Foxit 2.2, when the problem started, as I recall, after installing Jpeg or Indexing add-on. It continues now after upgrade to Foxit 3.0 last release. Unfortunately, I can't even uninstall both these plugins, as they don't have own Uninstallers, and Foxit Reader Uninstaller loops infinaly in Win98, adding extra files to Win Temp Dir.

If you can post or email a complete list of records in Win98 Registry and HD Directories (including C://windows), made by Foxit and these add-on Installers, I will uninstall them all manually, and install a previous Foxit version (which one?) designed for Win98. Please include the info on Ask Toolbar, as its Uninstaller also crashes in Win98. Interesting that Foxit PDF Editor 2 works normally in Win98, allowing to type text in pdfs using almost no system resources. But Foxit Reader 3 uses all resources at once as soon as one starts typing.

Also wanted to mention that Foxit PDF Creator can't print anything from Opera in Win98, so I have to use PDF995 Printer. But Foxit Plugin works excellent from Opera, and documents load at once. Its a great releaf to have that plugin. I wonder, how I can uninstall Foxit 3 without affecting its work? Can this plugin install or does it need a separate scaled down Foxit 3 version? Thanks for your prompt replies!

Hello zamar,

1. To uninstall Jpeg addon, simply go to Foxit Reader program folder, and manually delete this file 'fxdecod1.dll'.
2. To uninstall Foxit (Ask) Toolbar, go to Control Panle/Add or Remove softwares, and then delete Foxit Toolbar'.
3. You can find those addon info under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Foxit Software\foxit Reader .
4. Generally, versions prior to 2.3 can be run under Win98. For those critical addons, you can use them in your 98 system, but those advanced addons, may not. For what they are you can view this page (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/index.php).
3. Foxit PDF Editor 2, we announce it doesn't support Win98, but actually it can still be running on 98, except it may not be so stable as its previous version.
4. Foxit PDF Creator doens't support Win98, probably that's the cause your can't print from Opera.
5. If you want to keep firefox plugin, I have a workaround for you:
-- keep two Foxit Reader versions at your computer, one is version 3, so you can use Firefox plugin, another is its eariler version, so you can run on your system smoothly. Everytime when you are going to use plugin, you shall start v3 at your desktop first so you can use the plugin to open files within your browser.

If I don't answer you at some points, let me know please.

Thanks Christina,

Foxit Ask Toolbar Uninstaller doesn't work in Win98. As far as I know, Windows Add or Remove Software Panel simply launches the correct Uninstaller for a selected for removal software, so it doesn't work too. Is the above Registry Hotkey the only place where Ask Toolbar records are kept?

For Toolbar, it exists serveral places under HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_USERS, you can search with Foxit Toolbar to find them. But basically when Foxit Toolbar is uninstalled by Add or Remove Software, those records in registry are deleted too.
