The Gutenberg Online Library contains roughly 27,000 plus books, all freeware: Most in text and easy to convert. A cut and paste from Wiki
"Yes, we have Inaugural Addresses. Try eBook #4938. The inaugural address of President Obama will be available shortly after it is given.

There are over 27,000 free books in the Project Gutenberg Online Book Catalog.

A grand total of over 100,000 titles are available at Project Gutenberg Partners, Affiliates and Resources.

If you don't live in the United States, please check the copyright laws of your country before downloading or redistributing a book. "

Advance Warning: Advertisement on websites when doing a Foxit Eslick search on Google.

books 1500 Foxit eSlick Readius BeBook iLiad ... $12.95 - eBay
books 1500 Foxit eSlick Readius BeBook iLiad ... $19.95 - Bonanzle

These are books that are available legally Free through the Gutenberg.org website.
Do not be fooled by false advertisement. Certain books from Gutenberg have been picked out and put on a Cd. charging the respective fees. You can download the Dvd as I reported previously with over 17000 books for free.

Running the ebooks through GutenMark (http://www.sandroid.org/GutenMark/) to generate PDFs might wind up being a little prettier than reading the text file.

When looking at books from Gutenberg, I am confronted with these choices:

EPUB (experimental)
Mobipocket (experimental)
Plucker (experimental)
QiOO Mobile (experimental)
HTML none
HTML zip
Plain text us-ascii
Plain text

I naturally want PDF - Which is the best format for the eSlick?

You can select Plain text. You can also use the Foxit Creator to conver it to PDF.

My favourite options are to
1. Use one of the scripts here (http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Gutenberg#Programs_to_help_convert_etext_files) (I wrote the Python one) to reformat a Plain text Gutenberg file.
2. Search for the Gutenberg text from feedbooks (http://www.feedbooks.com/) and have it generate a pdf file for the eSlick.

You only can use plain text if it is in english. Foreign characters will be deleted.
