When I copy my PDFs from the computer to the SD Card thru the USB, 60meg takes about 60 min. I can take the card out of course and copy directly.
But I was just wondering if anybody else has encountered this?

We don't have this problem in our testing.

But I do, especially when you write to the internal memory and SD at the same time. So now I always write to SD through my dedicated SD reading device.

Anyway, maybe just a little bug that might be killed.

If it helps I'm using Vista 32 , I'll start checking if Vista has a problem in this area.

I just posted on this, but yeah. I am using a Macbook Pro and it's copying at about 1mb a minute for me as well. It's like I'm working with a serial connection. Last time I did it the device froze up and I had to use the reset button on the back. I haven't tried plugging it into Vista yet.

At this point in time, there are a number of possible explanations for slow card writing. As a starting point, it would be useful to know that if someone who has slow writing to the SD card also has slow writing to the internal memory by itself, allowing for likely smaller file sizes.

For me the writing is actually SLOWER to the internal memory. However it is possible that the device has locked up... Nope... there it goes. VERY slow uploading to internal memory.

Also, any kind of file I transfer to the device says, "File Corrupted".

Op, a reboot of the device fixes that problem. FYI.

Does the MacBook Pro have a 'Safely Remove Hardware' handshake to prevent disconnection while an operation is underway?

For me internal memory is fast, The card is slow when I copy multiple files at a time, but I just found that if I copy 1 file at a time it is fast. Still investigating

Yes it does. When I do that the device instantly reloads itself. It disconnects and instantly reconnects.

That certainly doesn't sound right. On an xp, I would expect it to add an icon 'safely remove hardware' when you plug-in the USB cable with the eSlick powered on. Then, when ready to disconnect, click the icon, and click the tiny window that pops up that corresponds to the eSlick. Then wait for an 'OK to disconnect' message and pull out the usb cable.

There might be a difference between full-powered USB ports and not, but my expectation (wild guess) would be that the problem relates to an Apple computer.

A key point would be whether a given computer works OK with a typical ext USB HD, or flash drive or card reader, but not with the eSlick.

Thanks for the help Don. I am an IT professional (working extensively with XP, Vista and OSX) my primary goal in posting here is to see if other people are having the problem or if there are any strange tweaks people have tried and worked.

Update on slow loading: It works blazingly fast on my Vista machine at work. (As USB 2.0 should with files like this)

However it still continues to crawl on my Mac. I'll just use Dropbox to save all my PDFs then and upload them via a PC until there is a patch or something.

"Yes it does. When I do that the device instantly reloads itself. It disconnects and instantly reconnects." (earlier quote on using the safe hardware removal handshake with Macbook Pro (?))

Would we be correct to assume that none of this anomalous behavior is seen with Vista?

Thanks, Don

Confirmed. Vista is zippy with it. Transfers files in no time flat.

Well not for me.

I think my initial transfer was only something like 15mb. I'll take a shot at hitting it with a more serious file transfer and see if I get the same speed issue. If it's just you, you could try a workaround of breaking up your transfers, but obv. that's not ideal. I'll try transfering several GB's and post back with the result.

Alright, I spoke too soon. My transfer rate for large transfers seems to oscillate between 145 kb/s and 180 kb/s. Shorter transfers peak around 125kb-130kb/s.

I read elsewhere that this uses the older USB spec, so the best way to transfer large amounts of data will be to just use a card reader. Certainly a shame, but not anything worth crying over. Personally, I'm thrilled with this things pdf capability.

It's strange sometimes my SD transfers are very fast but most of the time there very slow. But enough time spent on something that the card reader does fine, it's not a deal breaker for me.
