When I attempt to open a PDF file in Vista/IE7, the reader wants to open outside of protected mode.

I have set the preference > Internet setting to not display PDF in browser, and just download the file to my hard drive.

I just changed from Adobe to Foxit and I never had this problem with Adobe.

Does anyone know if I can change this, or is there a problem on my end?

Edit: I have set IE to not alert me about Foxit opening outside protected mode.

I guess its just like notepad or Windows media player. They have low rights\Elevation Policy in the registry.

I have set foxit to not run as admin by right click on icon > properties > compatibility > privilege level, as a safeguard. This way I can easily change it back for updates.

Thanks

Could you please explain with details this sentence 'Open outside of protected mode' ?-- How Foxit Reader behave?

In Windows Vista, Internet Explorer 7 runs in Protected Mode, which helps protect users from attack by running the Internet Explorer process with greatly restricted privileges. Protected Mode significantly reduces the ability of an attack to write, alter or destroy data on the user's machine or to install malicious code.

Foxit Reader won't open if it's not allowed to open outside of protected mode.

My Choices were to allow or not allow. I allowed it and checked the box do not show me the warning for this program again.

I think Windows should have given Foxit the low rights\Elevation Policy in the registry without the pop-up.

Thanks, I know protected mode in IE7. But I got confused what's the problem you are describing.

Do you hope Foxit Reader not to open the file after the file was saved to you disc?
If so, please set the preference > Internet setting to show file download dialog.

Or, you allow Foxit Reader to open the file after, but you always got an unwanted pop-up prompt? What's the message?

It will be better if could post certain screen-shots to help me understand it.

Thanks in advance.

I get the same problem.

Foxit wants to run in admin mode which is absolutely ridiculous. Please fix this.

Please refer to UAC (Windows Vista) if you really don't know what this means.
