View Full Version : Trancking number and possible discount

Robbie
April 2nd, 2009, 02:22 PM
I just put an order early morning of yesterday (first of April). And I received an email saying that the eSlick would be shipped out around 10th. And another email asked me to register the newsletter, I did that after reading the email. Right now, I wonder if a tracking number will be sent to me while the eSlick is shipped out to me.

Another thing is that I sent sales department an email to request a discount, I am waiting for the reply. I requested the educational discount via my university email address with order number, transaction number, my name, and credit card information. I checked my credit card account, it was fully charged ($259.99+$10), not as it was said that 50 bucks were charged first as a deposit on the page of order confirmation.

P.S. Since the cost is high, I did a few days research. I think that sony 700 or eSlick is good for me. Finally, I decided to buy eSlick. The reason is that I have tons of PDF journal papers to read for my research. I don't like to print out those papers for the review. So I need a good reader which can handle science and engineering papers well. Also, for students, it is much easier to carry those digital textbooks and papers to anywhere by eSlick. eSlick is the best choice for me if I can use it to review those journal PDF papers as I expect. Looking forward to seeing it ASAP.

You will receive a tracking number when it is shipped.

There is no educational discount at this time since it is at a promotional price.

You will be very happy with the PDF support, especially when it reflows the document.

I just got an email notice saying that eSlick would be shipped out next Friday. But I do understand that the application will be updated or upgraded based on the feedbacks. So I am happy with that.:1_12:

The application has improved, so we didn't want to release it too early. Sorry for the delay.

Erik, How about the battery life of this batch of eSlick?
:1_19:

Erik_Bryant
April 12th, 2009, 12:33 PM
The battery life is same as stated. You can get up to 8000 page turns on a single charge.

April 12th, 2009, 03:23 PM
Erik: Under what conditions is that 8000 page turns measured? The best I've been able to do is about 600 (and from many reports, this is not uncommon).

Erik,

Have you identified the causes of the battery problems as eSlick fans discussed here? Have you got those problems solved already?:1_09:

Thanks

Robbie

Erik_Bryant
April 13th, 2009, 09:33 AM
Yes the problems are solved by a new software update and in some cases a new battery. Please see other posts or e-mail support.

Erik_Bryant
April 13th, 2009, 09:34 AM
As for the conditions, I believe(not 100% sure) that it was with text documents without any images that we were able to reach up to 8000 page turns.

you must realize the time in Calif is 3 hrs earlier than eastern standard time and with the economy more than likely they will not be working unscheduled hours to ship. Which will mean standard 8-5 or 9-5 PST. business hours

Hello All, we are likely to finish all US eSlick orders shipped today.I don't understand this (I'm from Spain-Europe).
Why you (Foxit) say me: We'll send you the Eslick on 10-april... 17-april... until now?

Sorry, it's simply curiosity.

Are you sure that "the time in Calif is 3 hrs earlier than eastern standard time", Jack? Three hours earlier or later? Please look at your response "with the economy more than likely they will not be working unscheduled hours to ship. Which will mean standard 8-5 or 9-5 PST. business hours". What do you mean? :1_10:

Yes Three Hrs. earlier and please accept my apology if I came across as rude. Definitely was not intended. I'm just a simple man myself and as such had to check the time on the internet before posting. Was just trying to help. I also could be wrong but believe that foxit's operation where the units will be shipped from works primarily a day shift. Believe me I know how it feels to be waiting to receive the Eslick, and now am waiting on the firmware upgrade. I also think foxit will ship all present orders before releasing the new firmware to the previous group of purchasers. I guess we'll just have to be patient. Here's hoping you get you Eslick soon and are very happy with it.

I just received the eSlick this morning and sent to Sales Dept. an email to request for issuing the license keys.

Just one minor reminder:
The box back face might include in Quick Start in the software and documents section. In reality, the Quick Start is in the box, but not pointed out in the box cover. And it may be printed on both side of the sheet, so that you can save half paper.

I met the problems the others met:

1. I have a file in main memory, I can not delete it;
2. The battery still discharge. When I unplug it, the LED light is off, but there were just three bars in the battery;
3. Another problem is that I have a fold in my SD card named Found000, it is empty, I can not delete it with my laptop;
4. My internal memory is just 71 M;
5. In the settings, I can not set Auto-landscape, even if I set, the file is still display in portrait form.

Erik, do you have some firmware to upgrade the eSlick to get the problems solved?

Hi Robbie,
I just received my Eslick yesterday.I hope I could help you to isolate your problems with your Eslick.

I copied my PDF files from my PC into the root of Eslick's SD Card and Main Memory,what I mean is I didn't create folders inside the SD Card and Main Memory.

Here are my experiences using Eslick:

1.) Delete PDF files?
No problem when deleting files both on SDCard and Main Memory

2.) Battery discharges when Eslick is Off?
Last night I left my Eslick with 2 bars when I checked this morning still 2 bars.

3.) Sorry, I haven't tried deleting a folder?

4.) Internal Memory?
My Internal memory also is 74M

5.) Setting to Auto Landscape?
I haven't tried this but I read from the manual that it will work only if the width of PDF file is larger than its height.

I hope this will help Foxit's staff to isolate your problems.

Thanks

I met the problems the others met:

1. I have a file in main memory, I can not delete it;
Sorry this is a known issue. Our developers are working hard to solve it.
2. The battery still discharge. When I unplug it, the LED light is off, but there were just three bars in the battery;
Please keep it charged more over 1 hour to see any changes, even the light is off. Thanks.

3. Another problem is that I have a fold in my SD card named Found000, it is empty, I can not delete it with my laptop;
Currently, folder can not be deleted.
4. My internal memory is just 71 M;
That's because some of memory are used for system files.
5. In the settings, I can not set Auto-landscape, even if I set, the file is still display in portrait form.
See joseandrew comment above.

Erik, joseandrew, and christina, thank you for your immediate response, help, and post.

Some updates:

1. I tested the charging of battery. I plugged it into the wall outlet whole night. Good thing, this morning, the battery is fully charged. I am happy with that.

2. Yesterday afternoon, I transferred an e-book directly to main memory, but when I opened it, it showed that the file is broken, so I tried to delete it. It showed the file had been deleted, but when I opened the main memory to check, the file name was still on the list. This morning, I tested a few times, same thing. When I check the memory storage, yes, the free capacity is same as the capacity 71 M, it means that the files have been deleted, but the names are still there. I don't like the other non-system files occupy it.

3. For the folder, named Found.000 in the SD card, I can not see it on my computer even if I let the computer show the hide files and folders. It doesn't matter to me, that is OK.

4. Do you have some upgrades to let us to set the default values to fit our reading habits. I like to read in landscape and fit to content width. And right now, I have to set the display fit to my way for each book or paper. Good thing is that the eSlick can remember the last page I read and the display method.

I like the eSlick very much. I can do most of my reading on it including the complex research journal papers. Thank you.

I think the best method to deal with the landscape mode is this:
1. once it turn into landscape mode, it should also turn to "fit content width" mode. Right now eslick will fit content height, which make no sense.
2. assign a hard button to switch between landscape and portrait mode. Landscape is used very often to read pdf with larger page than 6", actually most pdfs will need landscape mode because reflow is not perfect. So it make sense to assign a button to switch between landscape and portrait, instead of assign a button to "delete" which is not used often and not important -- user can always delete files they don't want when they uploading new files, or it can be done through a menu, not a button.

When I found that I was charged the full amount for my eSlick instead of just the preorder deposit, I sent the order details to sales@foxitsoftware and asked whether my unit had shipped. I received the following reply on 4/24/09:

"We've sent some international eSlicks today. Hopefully we will finish shipping the rest on monday or tuesday. Please let us know if you have any further questions."

I replied on 4/27/09 that my order was domestic and asked for confirmation about whether my order had shipped or not. I have yet to receive a reply. I have not received a tracking number either.

There is conflicting information between the website, forums, etc... with regards to the shipping times. However, the preorder confirmation says that the full amount will not be charged until the unit ships. How can I confirm my order status?

Erik_Bryant
May 4th, 2009, 08:16 AM
We are not doing pre-orders anymore. We charge the full amount. It should say that on the website.

Also, I looked up your order and it was ordered on April 9th. The deadline for this second shipment was April 7th. Yours will ship out at the end of May. We had put a note on the website and already sent you an e-mail about that.

The battery life is same as stated. You can get up to 8000 page turns on a single charge.

if the first eslicks did get a 750mAh (and mine did) and the second 1000mAh
and they are both rated for 8000 page turns, the older ones should be more energy efficient I guess :1_01: or are the first ones just older models with lower clock speed?

But seriously any change to get a 1000mAh battery for a small fee ?

http://www.foxitsoftware.com/ebook/ says "preorder". the web page and my confirmation email both say shipping will be the end of May. However, the order confirmation page on the web says:

"1.Foxit eSlickYou have been charged $50 deposit for each eSlick at $259.99.Please note that it's a non-refundable
deposit.The rest of the balance, shipping and applicable taxes will be charged when the eSlick is shipped. Foxit eSlick
should become available to most countries by the time it is ready to be shipped.The eSlick will be shipped out in 4
weeks after your pre-order."

Since I saw the full amount billed, I thought maybe it shipped out early and that I should be looking for it.

Either way, end of May is what I expected in the first place. It looks like the website and confirmation page may need to be updated. I hope you can understand my confusion.

Thanks for the update!
