I have two simple questions:

1) is it possible to download new firmware and other user programs?
2) since the eslick is linux based and uses he code is GPL, where can we download the GPL code?

That depends which version of GPL linux they are using. It's only the newer revisions that require everything to be released to the public (although I agree that it would be great if they opened it up so people could make individual tweaks to the e-slick).

MarcoYou might be interested in http://openinkpot.org/ as it added a whole bunch of nifty things for the Hanlin v3s, but their re-seller pricing pushed me onto foxit...

No idea what the state of it for the netronix eb600 is though... although their Q2 2009 model (Cookie!) looks really nice since it finally adds a touch screen.

On second thought, after looking over more info on openinkpot, I'd stay away from it for the eslick(and other netronix) unless you really know what you're doing or want to experiment... it still looks like their primary

By the above, I mean until the openinkpot development goes beyond WIP stage... Too bad that these companies don't just decide to all work on a single linux distro the add their own value added type of stuff on top, e.g. DRM enabled readers and whatever else they want to add. It'd let them spend more time on those sorts of apps than monkeying around with the linux distro itself...
dev target is the Hanlin v3 variants... the netronix website looks to be a little better done with a firmer development schedule...
