I have ordered an Eslick and also I am worried with this problem.
Is a battery defect, a firmware/hardware fail?

Thank you! (and sorry for my google-translated english)

Basically, the reader can view about 7500-8000 pages when you are reading text files / books. When you are rending a PDF, it takes a lot of processing power, so it's a lot less.

:1_31: I was to edit my previous message, but I delete it accidently.

I'll use Eslick to read TXT files especially, so all is ok

We are investigating the battery issue. If necessary, we will put off the next shipment of eSlick to make sure the battery is in a good working condition. Thanks.

Hi Onumad, I have recovered your message.

In my case after receiving the eSlick I've been able to read more than 500 pages of text and images pdf books with just the charge it came with, so so far no problems with the battery life here.

Unit worked OK for a week.

Then :

Fully charge unit and red LED extinguishes.

Stop charging and leave unit untouched for < 48 hours. Power does not come ON.

So apparently battery discharges in less than two days despite never being turned ON.

I have another theory for you guys with battery issues. Did you notice any loss in battery or did one day it just stop turning on? The reason I ask is that it's possible it could be a problem with the power switch or something like that. I know sometimes you have to hold it a bit to get it to turn on. I'm sure if you get it RMA'ed Foxit should be able to figure out what was causing it by swapping batteries and seeing if the same thing happens.

Unit now re-charged again in a few hours, proving that unit was actually discharged.

It still doesn't turn on, but a reset does work.

Summary --

It apppears that a silent discharge mode can be initiated by either a connection or disconnection or both of the AC adapter. In this mode nothing works except for the reset button, assuming that the battery has been charged.

I just noticed with mine that the screw on the battery bay came loose and I had to screw it back in since the battery door was starting to come open. So try reseating the battery and/or making sure its door is still flush with the e-slick. It also does seem like the e-slick has some power issues. Mine just froze unexpectedly and wouldn't do anything until I replugged the battery (even reset didn't work).

My battery runs down in a few hours reading pdfs and reloading others that I created. When it arrived the battery door was slightly open. My unit locks up when I try to scroll too fast and freezes. The reset button does not work in these cases. I let it time out, and the display is still on the screen, but when I press the power button after it goes to sleep, it comes back on OK. I tried unplugging the battery and plugging it back in and that didn't help. I noticed it responded when I plugged the unit into the wall socket, but it may have been a coincidence with the timeout. Now that I slowed down with the scrolling and menu functions, it is working very well.

Erik has confirmed the exact problem with the battery. If he charges for 3-4 hours and disconnect the cable, then it's fine. But if he leaves the eSlick charging while he sleeps (7 hours), then it will charge, and then discharge. He have done this last night with 2 eSlicks. Both had no power at all in the morning.

Presumably, the desired action is to quit charging when the red charging LED goes out, rather than at a specific charging time?

This would seem to require avoiding extended connection to a computer, to keep the computer from discharging the unit.

Hello All,

The issue that Chris posted is unrelated. I have old demo units that were made 3-4 months ago. The eSlicks that were manufactured after are different. There will be a software update soon(for the first set of eSlick) that will address the battery issue.

I saw what I think is the same issue on the unit I received a few weeks ago - my 2nd charge was an overnight session. When I turned it on, the battery was empty....

tried a test over the last two days. charged fully overnight. verified full charge. spent about 20 minutes flipping through a text file. still full bars. Shut down the unit and put it away. now started it back up 24 hours later, completely dead. will startup, but won't stay on at all (won't get past startup screen)

so it discharged when completely off and NOT connected.

I'll email, and yes. I did it again last night. I charged up my eslick until light turned off. Turned on to verify was charged (full bars). turned OFF and didn't use again for 24 hours.

it wouldn't start at all after 24 hours. no use, not plugged in. I'm actually getting a little frustrated now.

I have the same problem. The battery discharges quickly when E-slick is off. Any suggestions?
