Acrobat can number the pages according user's need, so this "logical" page number can comply with page number in a book, not the number in that file. This is important to make a table of content of a paper book work -- otherwise user have to compute the actual page number every time.
Can foxit support this logical page number?

Hi,
Can you give me a more specified direction about this problem. For example, where can I find this function with Adobe?

Jessamine, or someone else from Foxit support:
not sure if this question was ever answered. I just found out about your software and while I really like the speed of the reader software, the lack of logical page number is a deal breaker for me. :(
here's how one would accomplish that in Acrobat:
1) Open up a length PDF document
2) click on the "Pages" tab near the left edge (this is in version 7 of acrobat)
3) you'll see a bunch of page thumbnails (ordered from top to bottom), above the very first page (of the visible pages), there's a button called "Options", it's more like a dropdown menu button.
4) click on that and select "Number Pages..."
5) a new dialog window should appear, here, you can select the page numbering. For example, if your document has counted the front outer cover of a document as page 1 -> (and in doing so, all of the pages are now 1 higher than what they are supposed to be), then you can specify that from page 2 until the last page, the numbering start from 1 again.
Once this change is done, the page numbering will appear like this at the bottom center: 3(4 of 159) <- this is just an example. What it means is that you are on page 3 (logically), but on the 4th physical page of the pdf document.
hope that helps! in the mean time, I'm afraid I have to go back to acrobat reader since that functionality is supported there. :(

Thanks for your detailed description.
I know what you mean now. I will report it to our developers to add that feature.

It have been 1 year since I posted this question, but the newest Foxit reader 2.1 still don't support this simple and important feature.
If you ever read a book in pdf, you will find this feature extremely useful: the page number in table of contents usually doesn't match the actual page number of any page, because the table of contents count the page number start from the first page of content, while the whole pdf start from cover, preface etc. With "Numbering the pages" function of Acrobat, you can assign the contents to the page number they should be, i.e. logical page number, then you can check the table of contents, change page number to any location you want, and it will bring you to the right location.
But foxit reader neglect this information, so when we want to jump to some page, we have to calculate the difference between logical page number and real page number then figure out the page you want, then input the number into the page number box, which is so stupid and tedious.
I believe this feature would be extremely easy to implement: you only need to find some number in the pdf file. Can you implement this feature in next version?
Thanks for your detailed description.

I agree with the earlier posts that I consider this one of the more important features. I tried the product a few years ago, but gave up on it because it didn't have this simple feature.
I tried it again and was impressed with the tabbed display and noticed the many other features, all of which probably took a lot of time to implement and test. But the one simple feature I wanted, logical page numbers was still missing!
All it is is displaying a value already stored in the file. It doesn't effect the layout or interact with the pages around it. It is just a number in a text field at the bottom of the screen. "Page 2 (8 of 235)" or something like that.
I tend not to be this animated with free stuff. I know how the world works and know that free items I download are a gift, but come on. "Page vi (6 of 235)" just isn't too much to ask!

I checked the newest version 1220 but still didn't find this feature. I believe it is not hard to implement, and it is very important for many ebooks -- especially for pdfs without correct table of contents, like scanned books.
Is it in your plan?

It has been added into the to-do-list.
