In Foxit Reader 3.0 Build 1506, income tax forms for filing with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service ("IRS") do not print in the correct size.
This problem involves:
1. TaxCut 2008 Standard (prepares income tax forms for filing with IRS)
2. Pdf995 (creates PDF files)
3. Adobe Reader 8.1.3
4. Foxit Reader 3.0 Build 1506
5. HP LaserJet IIIP printer
TaxCut prepares income tax forms that, when printed, comply with IRS requirements. One requirement is that the printed form must have margins of 1/4" to 1/2" at top, bottom, and both sides. Forms printed directly from TaxCut to the HP printer produce forms with margins of 1/2" all around, thus meeting the IRS margin requirements.
Pdf995, bundled with TaxCut, creates a PDF file containing the tax forms prepared by TaxCut. Assume the file is called Forms.pdf.
Using Adobe Reader to open Forms.pdf, and then printing forms from Adobe Reader to the HP printer, produces forms that also have margins of 1/2" all around. Thus, it too meets the margin requirements. Note that the "Print" window that appears just prior to printing shows "Page Scaling: None," "Document: 8.5x11.0 in" and "Paper: 8.5x11.0 in."
However, using Foxit Reader to open Forms.pdf, and then printing from Foxit Reader to the HP printer produces shrunken forms with 3/4" margins all around, and smaller type size. Therefore, it fails the IRS requirements. The "Print" window shows "Page Scaling: Fit to Paper," a scale of "94.12%," "Document: 8.5x11.0 in" and "Paper: 8.5x11.0 in."
When using Foxit Reader, if in the "Print" window the "Page Scaling" is changed to "Actual Size" or "100%," and then the print job is sent to the printer, the printer returns a "20 Mem(ory) Overflow" error message, and the job fails.
Why does Foxit Reader fail to do what Adobe Reader can do? What is the fix, if any?
Thank you.
