View Full Version : 【Bug】 Problem opening PDF-file in Firefox
Foxitfox

Hi!
I get an error message of sorts every time I try to run a pdf-file in Firefox with the Foxit Reader plugin. It's just a ! sign and nothing else, as shown in the picture. When I click OK it shows a blank page. I do not have any problems running pdf-files in IE7 with the same plugin.
Does anybody know the cause of this problem? I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me. I am using the latest version 3.0 Build 1506.
Greetings from the Fox!

First please try reinstalling Foixt Firefox plugin, do as the followings:
1. REMOVE PLUGIN FILES
1). go to Foixt Reader installation folder, somewhere like 'C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader\plugins', delete 'FoxitReaderOCX.ocx' and 'npFoxitReaderPlugin.dll'
2). Go to Mozilla Firefox installation folder, somewhere like 'C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins', delete 'npFoxitReaderPlugin.dll' .
2. RIGHT CLICK ON Foxit Reader exetuable program, and select 'Run as Admin' (be sure you are already runnning in Admin account).
3. OPEN CHECK FOR UPDATES, SELECT FIREFOX PLUGIN AND INSTALL IT.
4. Finally have a try.
Any questions, feel free to post here.

Thanks for the answer. I uninstalled the plugin like you described, but when I tried to reinstall it, I got an error message simply saying that the program wasn't able to get the file(s). I have been able to do program updates before.
What should I do now?

OK, I finally managed to reinstall the Firefox plugin, but I still get the same error message (as shown in Bug.jpg) when trying to open pdf-documents.
Can anyone help me?

Hi again!
I just discovered that this bug disappeared when I unticked the option to run the program as an administrator in the Windows' preferences. I believe that was the problem all along, but now it's fixed :). You should definitely try to bypass the need to run the program as an administrator by default. As far as I can see you only need the administrator rights when you're doing updates, and then you could simply have a "run the program with administrator rights"-button in the updates window. No other program I run in Windows (except system programs) need the elevated rights.
