View Full Version : Some documents are rendered awfully bad in 2.0 final!

I've just downloaded the final version 2.0 and noticed that some PDF documents are looking rather bad. To give an example, I have made screenshots of the first page of this PDF file (http://www.datumsrechner.de/modem/FtS.pdf) in both Foxit and Adobe Reader. In both cases, I've used the preferences given by the document itself with the exception that I've selected a zoom factor of 100% (document standard is fit to hight). The screen resolution is 1024x768 pixels.

In Adbobe Reader it looks like THIS (http://downloads.pigsgrame.de/bilder/example-adobe.jpg), which is what I expect it to look like.
In Foxit Reader, however, it looks like THIS (http://downloads.pigsgrame.de/bilder/example-foxit.jpg), which, frankly speaking, is far away from being acceptable.

Any chance to improvie the rendering capabilities in future versions?

What do you think is bad? Borders only? or borders and font?

Just compare the two screenshots. Apart from the neglectable bugs in the table corners, Adobe renders the document exactly as designed: All lines and table borders have the same thickness, all table cells have the same hight and width, and the font (Courier New) looks exactly as in the template document used to create the PDF file.
As you can see, Foxit Reader behaves totally different: Table cells have different width, hight, and size. The font looks different from one line to the other (it even seem to have changing size and gauge) and some (especially horizontal) table lines are thicker than others for no obvious reason.

The PDF I've linked in the first post are just an example, I could provide a few more. For example, Foxit Reader seems to have problems with double lines, they are almost always rendered as one thick line. While some documents are already rendered very well, there is a need of improving the engine for some other documents.

NB: I am already registered for the Pro Version of Foxit Reader, but before it can become my standard PDF viewer, it must be ensuered that nearly all documents are rendered in an acceptable way.

Hi,
I can see your problem and forwarded it to our developers.
I will reach you once having any progress.

Hi,

I got another example for the "bad rendering".
This is how it looks in the beta (http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.php?img=fr_beta.jpg) and this is the rendering in the final (http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.php?img=fr_final.jpg).

flow,

Could you please send us the PDF document (support@foxitsoftware.com) or post it here? Foxit Reader 2.0 introduced a new mechanism for font substitution, while it greatly improves text result for some document, it might introduce problems for some others (especially on non-English system).

Thanks for fixing this! The file I mentioned above looks far better now (in my oppinion, it looks even better than in Adobe Reader) and some other rendering issues, such as double lines which often appeared as one thick line, also seem to be corrected now.

Now I will set Foxit to my standard PDF reader.

So can I mark this thread as (fixed) ?
