View Full Version : [bug] pop-up notes going AWOL!?

I am currently working on a 300+ pages PDF file, and making heavy use of the highlight and annotation tools.

However, when I just scrolled through the document, a pop-up note for a highlighted section somewhere in the middle of the document mysteriously appeared on page 15, where it really doesn't belong.
So I closed and re-opened the file; the pop-up note was not on page 15 anymore, but it seemed to have disappeared altogether! When I now right-click the respective highlighted section in the middle of the document to "Open Popup Note", nothing happens!
This of course means that I can't 'trust' those annotation tools anymore now - and potentially means the loss of a lot of effort that has gone into those annotations!

Has anyone experienced a similar problem before?

As a side-note, it would help if there was a feature to jump to the next page containing user-created annotations - or the ability to only print pages containing such notes. Or how about an option to limit the search function to user-created annotations?
But maybe I should make a new thread out of this suggestion!?

UPDATE:
This problems with pop-up notes disappearing and being moved to a different place in the document seems to be more than a one-time occurrence.
I've deleted the respective highlightings, re-highlighted those parts and inserted a separate annotation using the Note Tool instead - yet the Note Tool's pop-up disappeared in a similar fashion; I guess it even appeared at the same spot in the document where the previous note had been (somewhere in the nether regions between pages 300 and 301 IIRC).
The OS this was tested on is Win98SE.

Hi,
Would you please try it in higher OS?

I will forward your suggestion to our developers.

Would you please try it in higher OS?Well, Foxit Reader doesn't work under Linux... ;P

Anyways, I've opened the PDF document on a WinXP machine, but couldn't find the notes anywhere (just the little icon indicating there was supposed to be a note).
So I opened the original, unedited PDF file and created two new notes in this "clean" document. However, those had disappeared as well after re-opening the file.
If you like, I could send you the PDF via e-mail - just send me a private message with your address then.

Hi,
There is a version for Linux. Please download it from our website.

Just send your file to support@foxitsoftware.com and insert a link to here.

Hi,
I can't recreate your problem with my xp sp2 OS.
I can read all your comments on the pages you listed.
I tried to make notes in you unedited file and re-open it. The notes are there. They don't disappear.
"just the little icon indicating there was supposed to be a note" in WinXp--maybe you click it, the note pops up.
If confirmed that it is Win98 problem, I will forward it to our developers.
But I should make sure that it does not happen in your xp system first of all.

Oh, and I had tried clicking all the notes of course; it didn't work...

Sorry, but that's all I can tell you right now.

Hi,
There is one thing missing: are your system using unicode?
If not, please try it in unicode mode. Tell me more on your system.

Please let me know if you need to know anything else.

It seems to be working better now, but not 100% reliably yet, I'm afraid.
I've sent you another version of the PDF so you can check it out yourself.

Ok, I will deal with it as soon as I receive it.
