I recently updated my computer to Windows 7 (64 bit), and upgraded to Foxit Reader 3.1 Propack. Every time I open Foxit reader the stupid UAC comes up asking if I want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer. This happens whether I open the program directly or if I just open a .pdf file from windows.

This never happened with either XP or the 32-bit beta (7077) I ran for 4 months.

Is there any way to stop this behavior short of turning off UAC?

The problem frustrated the hell out of me why on my work machine foxit works no problem however on my home machine UAC constantly popped up and firefox would just show my a blank error window instead of opening the PDF. I tracked this back to the newer version of Foxit being installed and set to run as administrator.

The truth is that you don't need to run Foxit as administrator unless you want to patch your software. It is sad this this default open policy is shipped however it appears Foxit choose to do this because the automatic updates process will fail. So instead of elevating privileges to admin only when updates are performed they want you to run it as admin all the time (Now that isn't very secure is it?) They need to fix this by having an update process which can run as Admin and will trigger UAC and keep the standard process the way it was.

The Fix:

Browse to the foxit reader directory:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader
or
C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader

Right click on "Foxit Reader.exe" and select Properties.

Under compatibility select "Change Settings for all users"

Un-check "Run this Program as an administrator"

Click Apply

Click Apply

Foxit, I love your software however it is really pretty silly of you to develop a solution where you need to elevate your rights. Please fix this!

Enjoy

Normally, if the option ' Install for all users' was checked during installation, by default, Foxit Reader doesn't require admin privileges.
