Hello
we want to full-text index PDF files on a SQL Server x64 edition. SQL Server uses IFilter, but Adobe provides only 32 bit versions of its IFilter.
Do you provide or plan to provide an x64 version of PDF IFilter?
Do you have any experience with using your PDF IFilter with SQL Server?
Thanks a lot!!

Jessamine,
thanks for your answer! Are you aware that it is displayed on MS's Windows Live Gallery and credited to Foxit Software?

Quite strange. Do you have any idea who the real author of this IFilter is, or how to contact them?

Dear Stefan,
I am so embarrassed that I just learned Ifilter was developed by Foxit.
So sorry for misleading.
I have forwarded your suggestion to our developers. We will take it into consideration soon.

Has anyone made any progress on this. I have the same issue of needing the PDF IFilter for Server 2003 x64, but I need it for the Microsoft Indexing Service.
It sounds like you can wrap the old 32 bit IFilter in a COM+ object, but I can't figure out all of the details to make this work.
Any word on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ryan.

Any news on this?
It would be really great to have a way to index the content of PDF documents and not only their filenames in Vista64 and make use of its cool new extended search functionality. Neither the Adobe nor the Foxit iFilters do the job as so far they're both 32-bit only. :(

I think you really need to hurry up because Adobe has already decided to make that 64bit PDF ifilter. And it also said to be "very soon".
I hate those adobe suckers and I hope you can beat'em.

We have just published our IFilter onto our website today.
We have already tested it on 32-bit machine and AMD x64 machine.
Also we are making effort to purchase an IA64 machine which is difficult to be found in local computer stores.
Therefore, we haven't tested it on IA64 machine and haven't published it to www.foxitsoftware.com
Nevertheless, you can download all three versions from the following URL:

Following on from the following:
We also need a PDF iFilter for x64
- SQL Server 2005
- SharePoint 2007
I've been reading through the documentation/release notes and internet discussion around the FoxIt iFilter and all the content seems to be MOSS2007 (SharePoint 2007) centric...
I am currently working on a Tech Refresh project where we will be deploying the following SharePoint environment:
SQL Server:
* Windows Server 2003 R2, Enterprise Edition (x64/SP2)
* SQL Server 2005 (x64/SP2)
SharePoint Server:
* Windows Server 2003 R2, Enterprise Edition (32bit/SP2)
* SharePoint Portal Server 2003 (32bit/SP3)
The SharePoint Server is configured in line with Microsoft's Small Server farm model, as described in the Solution Accelerator for Intranets, and will therefore be configured with the following SharePoint Roles:
* Web Server
* Search Server
* Index Server
* Job Server
The SharePoint 2003 Search and Indexing components make use of 2 separate engines:
* SQL Servers Full Text Engine for Windows SharePoint Services content
* Microsoft SharePointPS Search for SharePoint Portal level content
With this in mind, it IS necessary to install appropriate iFilters on BOTH the SQL AND SharePoint Servers to be able to successfully index and search PDFs. This brings the following questions to mind:
1. Does the FoxIt iFilter work with SharePoint 2003?
2. Can the 64bit and 32bit iFilters be "mixed-and-matched" in the manner required?
3. If the iFilters can be "mixed-and-matched" in this manner, would this be a supported configuration?
4. Is there are ETA on the fix for the issue where the iFilter must be un-installed/re-installed after MS updates have been applied?

Foxit iFilter could work with SharePoint 2003.
About other questions, we will take more test before answered you.
Because some customers report that their IFilter work find when just install on Index server, but some customers said that they need to install iFilter both the SQL and the index server.
We are do more test on it and try to reproduce these.
We will tell you the result as soon as we have a new conclusion.

In Moss 2007 IFilter only need to install on the index server.
