After several months of total revamping, Foxit Reader is getting stronger now. This new maintenance version fixed many bugs and improved performance on several categories:

1. The poor graphic quality bug was fixed. By the way, if you are not using Windows XP, please search for and download "gdiplus.dll" on Internet (or just copy it from a Windows XP system) and put into your Foxit Reader folder, you will see much better display quality for vector graphics.

2. Printing module redesigned, so many print setting bugs are fixed. However we still have a lot to do for our printing engine, especially for the spooling size.

3. Typerwriter module redesigned. It's more stable now, and you can input texts after page rotation now (so you can input texts of different directions). You can also use mouse to perform selection operation within a text box now.

4. Performance improvement implemented for image processing, especially compressed monochrome images.

5. Latest PDF encryption using AES algorithm is now supported.

The latest version of Foxit Reader is always available for download at http://www.foxitsoftware.com/foxitreader/foxitreader.zip (compressed package, no instiallation needed), or http://www.foxitsoftware.com/foxitreader/foxitreader_setup.exe (self extraction installer).

Yes. That file works with me in build 1130.

Windows 2000 and no gdiplus.dll

Check the attachment. (zipped picture)

Have just downloaded build 1130. Much improved - the problems I was having with earlier builds have disappeared.

Observation - when viewing an Acrobat 1.5 400k file on a low-end machine (WIN95b with 64Mb ram), it takes ages to move from one end of the document to the other, via each page. Much hard drive activity, during which time machine locks. I assume this is cache flushing activity.
Doesn't happen when same or much larger files are viewed on same machine with Acrobat Reader.

Regards, Colin

Thanks everyone for testing and re-testing new releases. We understand Foxit Reader is far from perfect, and our development effort is far from over. This release is just a beginning of a new Foxit Reader (although it looks the same, but underneath we have a new structure, and our testing team is growing). We still have a long to-do list, but we will try to address every single problem reported by our users. We will do that in the future months, probably the whole coming year.

Hi Jako,

Could you please send us a sample document? Since AES encryption is pretty new to PDF specification, we might need more information to support all kind of PDF creators using AES. Of course we will keep your document strictiyl confidential and use it for testing purposes only. You can send the document to support@foxitsoftware.com. Thank you.

I didn't try the exe package but if you download the zip ones, you get the old 1.3.1111...
I used this link:

I'm sorry. Now it seems fixed.
Unfortunately the old version was in my browser's cache so every time it downloaded the old version instead the new one...
I'm going to test it now!
Bye.
