the pdf prints almost all black - almost a negative of the actual image on the screen.

I am encountering something very similar. I am not sure if it is the same problem, but it seems to be. Documents print as basically a negative (black and white inverse) of what they should be, with white text, black background, etc. Very hard on our toner cartridges! ;)

Attached is a sample PDF where it occurs, along with a "Print to file" output and 2 images showing the below described dialog issues. This issue does not happen with every PDF I don't think, but it seems like it's most of them. Printer is an Okidata 14e on Windows 2000, and of course it works for everything else just fine.

I did a little investigation and found a workaround. Basically if you go directly to Print and then to the Options dialog, you will find it is two tabs, one of them blank, the other with a few abnormal options. If you print at that point you will get the inverse problem. However if you go to Print Settings first and then, without changing anything, just click OK, then go back to Print, it will print properly! If you check the Options in Print Settings for the same printer all the appropriate tabs and settings show up (see images in attached .zip file). Hopefully that additional info will help.

I have noticed that you have reported another printer problem on Toshiba here(http://ww.foxitsoftware.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=1952). I am wondering whether they are the same issue?
