Hi guys

Trying to rid my machines of the dreaded Acrobat, started playing around with Foxit.....

Some PDFs work OK, but I found that the stuff here http://www.simmonsco-intl.com/research.aspx?Type=researchspeeches
makes my machines unusable. Tried a few, all of them do the same.

Example PDF http://www.simmonsco-intl.com/files/Chilton%20Club.pdf

I've tried it on 3 different systems
- Dual-AMD Athlon system running W2K3 Server Enterprise SP1, fully patched, blah blah
- Dual-PII system running Windows XP SP2, fully patched
- Single PIII laptop running XP SP2, fully patched

In every case, the PDF loads and the front page comes up with an hourglass if you mouse-over, and Task Manager shows memory utilisation going up, up, up. Within a short space of time the system is using hundreds of MB more than it was before the PDF was loaded, and bogs down as it pages like crazy.

Looking at the process memory utilisation using Task Manager:
- for XP Foxit reports 50MB or so in the process list, but the overall system RAM usage in the Performance tab just kweeps going up.
- for W2K3, the task list reports Foxit using 2,3,4,50000MB at which point I kill it before the system stops working.

First found this issue using a build I downloaded a few weeks ago, but changing to the 1413 build makes no difference.

Regards

Chris

I can confirm this problem on my Duron 1000 with 256 MB Ram, win XP SP1

Let's wait for the new release in a few days, perhaps they've already fixed this problem.

With my P4 3.0 GHz, 2GB RAM all works fine.
Although the PDF uses a lot of memory (> 700 MB).

I've got the same problem, too and because i have only 512Mb's ram it is VERY annoying...but i've tested v1.2 and it works ok.
I thought FoxitReader was meant to be a lightweight app for viewing pdf but instead of getting better it becomes worse.Compared to
v1.2,v.1.3 uses more RAM and it also has this weird problem
