Every time Foxit Reader opens, I have to specifically close the advertisement. I would like to disable it permanently and forever. Does anyone have a simple way of doing this that does not involve my going into the register?

create a reg-file with:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader\MainFrame]
"ShowEditorAd_908"="0"
"ShowReaderAd_908"="0"
"ShowTypewriterAd_908"="0"
"ShowPOAd_908"="0"
"ShowSDKAd_908"="0"
"ShowFFAd_908"="0"

Perhaps I was unclear. I am uncomfortable messing with the registry files of my computer because I know how potentially problematic that can be. Thus, I am looking for a method that does NOT involve a registry file as I specifically noted.

Windows is continuously reading/writing the registry and has no problems whatsoever :1_01:
At this moment there is no other way. :1_32:
Just import the reg-file one time per user (the settings go in to the hkey_current_user) and your done.

emslemsl: Actually, you said:
emslemsl > Does anyone have a simple way of doing this that does not involve my going into the [registry]?
Humulus showed you a way to do that:
1. Run Notepad or other text editor.
2. Copy the text in the "Code" section of Humulus's post.
3. Save the file with the extension ".reg" (for example, noad.reg)
4. Double-click the file, then click "Yes" or "OK" when Windows asks you if you want to add the info to the registry.
This doesn't require you to "go into" (open or edit) the registry yourself. The file does it for you.
I've used Humulus's tip; it works, and it's harmless. It changes only those specific settings that Foxit Reader uses when it runs. It doesn't affect any other program or any other part of Windows. As long as you copy the text directly from Humulus's message, you have nothing to fear.

You can disable the ad without using the registry. It only take about 2 minutes of clicking. Here is what I tried to figure out one day.
Yep, you can get rid of the foxit ad. Somewhat confusing to do, but once you do it you shouldn't see it again even after updating.
What I do is
1. open any pdf
2. uncheck "advertisment" in "view" menu
3. Umm, I dunno, I've tried finding I sure way of getting rid of it but it seems to be random. Apparently it's not supposed to happen unless you get a paid version but it is possible without paying.
I repeatedly do steps 1 and 2, then I go to file->close, then file exit. And then repeat step 1, 2, and mix it up with all the different ways to close the pdf/program. Eventually the ad goes away and stays away.
I just did->foxit icon below top left foxit icon->close (ctrlF$, then top left foxit icon->close altF4 and it got rid of ad for good.
But now if I enable ad again and try same thing the ad doesn't go away. Actually it does again after trying 3 more times.
Sorry no simple answer, but after 1 minute of testing eventually you can get the ad to go away for good.
So best possible quick way to get rid of it:
1. open any pdf
2. uncheck "advertisment" in "view" menu
3. press ctrl F4, then alt F4.
4. open pdf again and see if advertisement still showing. If so do steps 1-4 again. Should go away after 5 tries or so.

The reason you have to do it about 5 times is that there are that number of different adverts. You have to uncheck it for each of those seperate adverts. Once you have done that you won't ever see them again.

Yes. That's exactly what the registry file is designed to do: deactivate all 5 types of ads. And that's all it does, I assure you.

NO NO ....
I would rather use my method (see earlier post) than download a VBS file from an unknown source mentioned by a poster who has only just joined...... Do it at your own risk.....
(and spam seems getting a huge problem on this forum nowadays, sad).

Hello dsergeant. I know the spam is getting crazy. We are taking a lot of measures. And actually you will see I deleted that guy's message just before you posted yours. haha. Sorry for the spammers. It always gets crazy, and then calms down.

I just downloaded the new build of Foxit 2.3 (3201) and discovered that the irritating color ad strip is back. Worse, even repeatedly deselecting the ad and closing out of the program no longer gets rid of it for good. It always returns.
Still worse, even the registry fix didn't stick. I changed the value of all the ad items from 1 to 0, exited out of regedit, and when I reopened the editor the 1's were back -- as were the ads in Foxit.
Any suggestions?

Yes, it seems they have changed the way they display the advert.... I find it particularly annoying that it now cycles through the various different ads and every time it changes with a different colour it distracts from what you are doing. But no comment on here from support, or any mention in the changelogs.
Guess we have to put up with it, but if it is intended to get me to buy one of their products it has had the opposite effect here...

Do you think the fact that you used the zip version is relevant?
Or do you just have a better ad blocker than I do?

Just tried the zip version on another computer. Neither editing the registry nor repeatedly disabling ad, closing out, and restarting seems to get rid of that distracting little billboard.

To set the values to zero in the registry? Yes. But the current version of the program automatically resets them to override the edits and bring back the ads.

I was about to write in and make the same discouraging observation.
Please, Foxit representative, tell us that the long-awaited new release at least has some mechanism (e.g., through a registry edit) to allow users to disable the awful ads.

IMHO, if Foxit contains ads that cannot be removed that makes it "nagware," "nuisance ware," or "adware"--but definitely not freeware. If the other posters in this thread are representative of Foxit users, the ads, which are obviously designed to annoy people into buying the Pro Pack, are having the opposite effect.
Oh, well, back to Adobe.

Well this, together with the forced crapware installs put on my system in v3, means that from, today, I am no longer a Foxit customer personally. I also won't bother with the 3000 user purchase of PDF Creator for my company if this is the way the company plans to operate.

Good it should be fixed by the next time I need to reinstall a PDF viewer. I'll try to remember foxit as a choice a few years from now when I wipe the OS and reinstall it again. But it looks like PDF-Exchange is installed now, and unless it totally fails to render a PDF it'll stay in place.
