Im using Foxit Reader for ~70% of my PDF files. For the rest, i use Acrobat.
I want to use Foxit Reader every time, but it misses some small (but really handy) features.

I would like to suggest to add these features in a feature release of Foxit Reader. All the features im suggesting are to improve navigation in Foxit Reader.
If someone has a alternative for one of my suggestions, please let me know :)

1) I would like to see the option "window > split" in Foxit Reader.
With this option, it would be easier to view different views from 1 pdf document.

This option is available in MS Word and (more importantly) in Acrobat.

2) In Acrobat (and every other app), i can PRESS and HOLD the scroll button, and move downwards with my mouse, and it will scroll downwards. And ofcourse i can move upwards, left, right and it will move in those directions.
This isnt possible in Foxit Reader. It would be easier to navigate through documents if this was added.

3) When i view some documents in Acrobat, and look at the pagenumbers. Some ebooks have their first few pages numbered in Roman letters (I, II, III, IV, V, etc), like this: http://i6.tinypic.com/6tkpab8.png

When i open this book in Foxit Reader, it doesnt recognize the first few pages as Roman numbers. Instead, it just starts with page 1 at the first page.
The advantage of these Roman numbers come if ur viewing a "complete" ebook, i.e. with the first few pages (contents, foreword, preview) and the index. For making it more clear i will talk about this ebook i have. It contains 19 Roman numbered pages (contents, foreword, etc).
When i go to the index of this ebook, and lookup for a certain keyword, i can see that its located at say page 1315. In Acrobat, i can go to page 1315 (ctrl+shift+n), and it will give me page 1315 of the (real printed) book, but page 1344 of the PDF file: http://i9.tinypic.com/87k6pvd.png. This is good, because now i can use the index as it supposed to be. Acrobat can do this, because it worked with those Roman numbers i talked about.

Now lets go to Foxit Reader. When i go to page 1315 from the index, it will give me the page 1315 of the PDF file, that is page 1286 from the book. This is not what i want :1_32: This happens because Foxit Reader doesnt support Roman numbered pages. So every time i want to go to a particular page from the index, i have to recalculate what that page would be in Foxit Reader.
However, i STILL use Foxit Reader for this large document, because its 10x faster than Acrobat.

Please note that the book is only a example. Im not asking for this feature solely for this PDF document. There are also other PDF documents, which have other numbering than Arabic (1,2,3 etc). An example is that some books/magazines call their first (front) page "Front". Some publishers call their pages which arent numbered in the printed version A, B, C etc.

I hope im being clear enough, if not, plz let me know :)

Please give me feedback how u think about these suggestions.

Hello,

May I add to this wish list?

When I click on a PDF link in Internet Explorer, I would like to have Foxit Reader launch and open the PDF in its own application frame window, NOT open the PDF inside IE as a new tab or a new IE window as it does today. Adobe Reader has this option in Preferences, I really miss it in Foxit Reader.

Thanks for your consideration, and regards,

This opening outside of IE has been requested over and over again for several YEARS. Why can't Foxit just fix this? It should be accomplished with a small addition a simple option!

Since it has actually been YEARS that this simple request has been outstanding, I wish bmn the best with this list, and encourage bmn "NOT TO HOLD YOUR BREATH".

Thnx for taking the time to look at my suggestions :)

I hope they will be included in a future update.

@appyface & Boz: Doesnt IE have a plugin for PDF Download? So u can choose what to do with a PDF file? Im using Firefox, and i have this plugin called PDF Download (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/636). Everytime i click on a PDF, it will open Foxit Reader :)

The method suggested by Kurica does work under IE or programs based on IE (like Maxthon). In the download dialogue you must click on the "Save" button, and after the file is saved to the disk, you must click on the "Open" button of the dialogue to open it inside Foxit (if it is the default PDF reader).

muntealb, this is how it has ALWAYS been, ever since Foxit decided to integrate the opening of web based pdf files INSIDE of IE based web browsers, CHANGING Foxit's original behavior, and GIVING NO OPTION for the original behavior, which was having pdf file links clicked in the browser to open outside of the browser. Surely you realize that what you describe, which is nothing new, is NOT what is being requested by so many Foxit users, right?!

Well, Appyface wanted that : "When I click on a PDF link in Internet Explorer, I would like to have Foxit Reader launch and open the PDF in its own application frame window, NOT open the PDF inside IE as a new tab or a new IE window as it does today."

Then Kurica posted a solution that while not the best one, can do what Appyface wanted. The PDF file is downloaded to the harddisk, then opened externally in Foxit, not in a IE frame. It's a two step process, but on a fast connection the download is very fast so is not as bad as it may sound.

I don't know what was the original behavior of Foxit, but the solution proposed by Kurica works. There are other things that don't work at all in Foxit and need immediate attention from the developers, for example the new english file that must be translated in order to have the interface in another language.
