Hi,

I am trying to design a form in Foxit. After creating about 40 text fields, I have just realized that I can type in only a few. When I click inside the box and type in most form fields, nothing happens. Has anyone run into this problem where you create a form field but you can't type in them?

As to the questions that you might be willing to ask, I advance my anticipatory responses as follows:

1. The problem is not limited to a particular format of the form field. Some fields are, for example, visible without printing, and other's are just visible. This has no impact on whether I can type in them.
2. Yes, the problem only seems to occur while completing the form in Foxit. I can type in the fields just fine in my trusty old Adobe 5.0.
3. Did I try reinstalling Foxit? Yes, but reinstalling didn't help.
4. Have I tried rebooting my computer? No. I am too angry. Foxit just ruined an evening that I was going to use to catch up on work.

When I registered Foxit last month, I had high hopes. I recommended the program to clients. Now, I am tempted to give up on this and spend the money for the upgrade for Adobe. It is very costly to lose time. If anyone has had a similar problem, please help.

Thanks,
Ndmand

Hello Ndmand,

Could you please send a sample to support@foxitsoftware.com? We also need your system info and the version number of Foxit Reader you're using. Thanks.

Thanks Elisha,

Ndmand is an idiot. Turns out the problem was that the height of some form fields were too small to accomodate 10 point type. I need for my data-entry to be consistently sized, so I set the default field to 10 point type. Some of the fields were apparently too short, which works okay for automatically sized type. I don't know why I could still type in the box when I used my old Adobe.

Now I need to figure out a way to make sure the boxes are tall enough as I quickly try to create fields. I hope/wish there was a feature to do that, or that the field height would automatically size itself to accomodate the type setting. I am also trying to figure out how to remove the boarders around fields so that they do not print. I am reviewing the manual now for a solution. Still, if you have any direction I would appreciate it. Thanks for responding. I am really trying to avoid spending the money to upgrade Adobe because it is costly and it takes up so much of memory when it runs.

Hi Ndmand,

I'm sorry that the field height cannot automatically size itself to accomodate the type setting. But there's another way: select "Multi-line" and "Scroll long text" in the Options tab so that you can type more words in the fields.

As for the boarders, you can set "No color" as the border color.

Please give it a try. Thanks.:1_30:

Thanks Again,

Here's what I had to do, and I am mentioning it only because others might run into my dilemma.

Sizing Fields. I experimented until I drew a field just about the minimal height that would accept my preferred text. Okay, I had to draw it twice. I also made it the width that I figured would most often work. Then I right-clicked to set the field as my default field. Foxit will automatically draw the default field if you double click anywhere on the page. Therefore, when I double click on the page, the field is drawn to the correct height and most functional width. Because Foxit lets you build fields without closing the field properties box, you can work down a page pretty fast just double clicking where you need a field.

Box Border. My border color was already set to "no color," but the field border still printed. To make the border disappear, I also had to set my thickness to "thin" and linestyle to underline.

Thanks, Elisha,
