View Full Version : [Feature Request] Search Tool Fixes/Enhancement

Foxit's search tool is one of my favorite features, and one of the biggest selling points when I show Foxit to coworkers. However, the current dialog is crudely implemented. The two biggest issues:

(1) The window cannot be resized. I've got a huge monitor, but I'm unable to use this space to see my search hits... I'm stuck scrolling around in a tiny, fixed-size dialog. It's very Windows 3.1-ish. This is a one-line code fix.

(2) The dropdown box containing the list of search directories is too short, cannot be resized, and offers no way of scrolling. The result is that there is literally *no* way to distinguish between long paths that share a common base path. You can only see the common part of the path in the dropdown list, and Foxit does not display the search path anywhere else.

To provide minimum functionality, Foxit should display the full search path somewhere where it can be read in it's entirety, and/or the dropdown box should be resizeable/scrollable.

Alternatively (and ideally), the right hand size of the dropdown box could be anchored to the right side of the dialog, such that increasing the width of the dialog (as in request #1) automatically increases the width of the dropdown box.

One other issue:

(3) There is no way to *remove* search paths from the dropdown list. Paths that have become obsolete are stuck there forever. In the short term: is there a file I can edit to remove these paths? I searched the registry and the application directory and found nothing. In the long term: the UI should provide a way to remove paths from this list.

And finally, actual requests for new features: ^_^

(4) In addition to searching "In the current PDF document" and "All documents in <folder x>", it would be extremely useful to have an option to search "In all currently opened documents".

(5) The ability to search using regular expressions would be flat-out beautiful, but I'm not holding my breath. :)

Cheers,
Eric

Please add my vote for these well thought out suggestions. I particularly ask the those relating to search results be included in your wish list of enhancements. Many thanks for your considerations.

Eric,
are you saying that the dropdown box actually works?

I always found it completely useless because I have no choice: it says "all PDF documents in"... "C:\".
That's all. No way to specify anything else; no typing, no browsing, nothing.
So each time I'd have to scan the whole HD... Foolish!

With such a problem, the ones you reported can be seen as "minor", but I fully endorse your suggestions.

Cheers,
Maurizio
