The reason I tried Foxit Reader 2.2 was because I've never downloaded a PDF from Google Books that didn't seem damaged. They say it's because they use JPEG2. And they recommended Foxit, among others. But I still can't read every page on these Google PDFs.

I'll give an example. (http://books.google.com/books/pdf/Patrologiae_cursus_completus.pdf?id=9DW_5WWF0osC&output=pdf&sig=Mw5Mb9II-by7hg2vVA--GovD4SA)

Can anybody read every page in Foxit Reader without hanging up Windows, as it were?

Cannot open the link though...

The link points to a 64 MB file, so obviously it must not be opened inside the browser. I have downloaded it and then opened it in Foxit Reader. All the content can be read without problems other than the poor quality of the scanning (it is a scanned book written in greek and latin).

That was my only question. Because when I download the file, Foxit crashes/hangs up at pages 35 or 36 and some others. I downloaded the latest 2.2 version. But the reason I wanted to try Foxit is because I've had similar problems with every PDF I've downloaded from Google. One of two pages would completely hang up Acrobat, or the latest Ghostview, or whatever else was used. I wanted a reader that wouldn't crash on such errors.

I can't understand why mine does mess up, and yet you are able to view every single page. But then thank you. Because at least in one case, I got an answer. And it's that at least one person out there is certain that every page in that file can be viewed with Foxit 2.2. I think perhaps I'll try to download again and see if the same problem is had, again viewing with Foxit.

Still no luck. I downloaded a fresh copy. I opened in Foxit Reader. And I clicked on page 8 - system error, and Foxit crashed.

The debugger reported -

error - 0237E3BC mov dword ptr [eax+ecx],edi

But I don't know that would help anyone. It's a Google scan using somewhat low quality JPEG2. But Foxit reads various pages before and after. It crashes on 8, and many other pages afterward, as well.

Anybody know why?

You may want to tell us about your computer specs and operating system specs. It could be something like a video card or something. Maybe check and see if your video drivers are up to date?

Try downloading

http://www.mises.org/rothbard/rothmoney.pdf 700kb
pdf and see if that is working. It could somehow be a google problem.

That's just all text. It works fine. Try that file I suggested (only if you have a fast connection, otherwise don't try). If you can view every page, that page 8 and every other page, it might suggest that the JPEG2 download, which was automatic in Foxit, was not quite right on my system. But if others have the same JPEG2 problems that hangs up Foxit, then it would seem a something they should address.

'Humulus' - the problem wasn't with the text pdf. It was with that pdf composed entirely of JPEG2 images downloaded from Google.

Yes I know, your topic start was clear about that. So I downloaded the 64 MB file from Google and tried it. As stated in my previous post: no problems with Foxit 2.2 b2129 on W2K SP4.

'Muntealb' also doesn't have a problem, so I think it's a problem with your OS configuration.

Maybe you could try a new or other driver for your graphics card? It solved some Foxit problems for me.

Then I can't imagine why it reads some JPGE2 pages just fine, and others cause Foxit literally to crash. But if you were able to read pg. 8 and others, then thanks for saying so. I appreciate it.
