View Full Version : pdf reload: feature request

Hi! as I work with TeX/LaTeX (constant recompilations of source => pdf), I find one particular feature of GhostView program very handy: it can recognize if an opened pdf has changed and redraw it on the fly. I know it can be hard to implement, but if there were at least an option to manually reload an opened pdf in Foxit, I would be very grateful.
It would set Foxit reader way beyond Adobe reader, which locks the opened file: when you use AR, you have to close it every time you recreate pdf (or you have to use third-part programs, which do it for you in the background)
Greetings
A.

This feature request has been asked many times, I'd like this, too. I think it is on developers to do list.

I have two requirements of a PDF reader, other than it can read PDF files and not be Adobe Acrobat/Reader: firstly, it must be able to print correctly and as specified (in my experience, Sumatra and Cool PDF Reader both fail, whereas Foxit passes); secondly, it must be able to reload/refresh files changed by other software because I, like other users of Foxit, use LaTeX. Until this feature is supported, I have to have (at least two) PDF readers installed, which is irritating at best.
According to Andreasm82 in this thread, this feature is on the developers' list of things to do. My question is when will it be made available to the user?

This feature has been confirmed by our developers and has been added into new features list of our next version. Hopefully it could be implemented.

That's good to hear, Christina. Thanks. Any idea when the next version will be released?

The releasing date is not determined yet.
Edit:Hi pandammonium and all, sorry to say, this feature might not be implemented in our near version due to some technical problems.

This really is a blow! Is it possible they could focus on fixing the technical problems and see if they can still implement this feature in the next version?

Sorry for this. Since there were might be side effects to implement this feature at this moment...., the development team have to consider more....

If it helps anything (I suppose you considered this anyway):
The main thing you would have to do, would be to make Foxit remember the current view of the document. Shouldnt be too hard to do ... its mainly the page number and the zoom the doc had the last time it was opened. This would already help very(!) much.
Of course it would be nice to have precisely the same view as before, but reopening the doc at the right page would already be a big improvement.
Sorry for being a smart-ass, in case you already considered this ...
