When open a pdf file which contains only 1 page and print. Depending on which printer that you're selecting, the collate option will automatically checked or unchecked. So far, I've noticed that if it is a postscript printer, the collate option is checked, otherwise, it is unchecked. This option is also grey out if the pdf file contains only one page, regardless of how many copies that you want. So basically, if you open a pdf file with only 1 page, you have no control over the collate option. The problem for me is that I prints to a postscript printer, Xerox Docu240. Therefore the collate option is checked. Since my pdf file contains only 1 page, therefore the option is grey out and I have no control over it. So I set to print 5 copies. Foxit will send that only page 5 times to the printer. Causing the printer queue to have a much bigger file. If I need to print 100 copies, it would print it 100 times and it will create such a hugh file on my printer queue that it slow down my computer to a haul. That's just one problem. Another problem that I noticed is that it'll attached the number of copies information to the printer as if the collate option is unchecked. So if I print 5 copies, I got 25 instead; 10 would give me 100, etc... Huge problem for me. For that I'm force to use Adobe for printing. Hopefully this can be fixed.

Since the original file which I used is too big, so I created a pdf file of our website using PrimoPDF for this demo. My system is running XP sp2.

First I open the file using Foxit and make a 1 copy printout (Untitled-1.jpg). Then make a 5 copies printout (Untitled-2.jpg). After that, open the same file using Adobe Reader 6 and do the same (Untitled-3.jpg and Untitled-4.jpg). Untitled-5.jpg shows all the print job in the queue. The top 2 is from Foxit (1 page & 5 pages respectively). The bottom 2 is from Adobe. Noticed the file size different between 1 & 5 pages and between Foxit and Adobe. Foxit obviously generated a much bigger file. Foxit also generated a 5 times bigger file for a 5 page job (imagine if I needed to print a 1000 pages).

Also noticed that the collate option is grey out regardless of the # of copies selected.

That's all I got hope this help.

Thanks.

Just for your reference. I did the same print test using my original file. For 5 copies, the file is at 225MB. I was making 100 copies and the queue was soooo big that it just stop my computer....(feels that way at least).
