View Full Version : Removing "PDF Document" from right click context menu

If I right click on a blank space on the desktop and choose "New", one of the options is "PDF Document". I like to keep the New menu as clean as possible and I don't need this entry. I have tried disabling and deleting it with TweakUI, but it only works until the next time I use Foxit Reader which restores the item to the context menu.

Is there any way to permanently remove this menu item, or to stop Foxit Reader from restoring it? Thanks in advance.

Hello Sigma,

It's fdf document. will suggest to delete it in the future version.

I also want to put in the same request to remove "FDF Document" from the Windows Explorer New context menu.

I frequently use keyboard shortcuts (e.g., to create a new Folder), but since installing Foxit Reader 2.3, the FDF Document option competes with the Folder option on the New context menu.
:1_03:
Specifically, whereas Alt-F-W-F normally creates a new sub-folder in the current folder, since installing Foxit Reader 2.3, Alt-F-W-F now simply highlights "FDF Document" on the context menu; then each subsequent pressing of "F" toggles back and forth between "Folder" and "FDF Document" until you choose one by pressing "Enter."
:1_10:
I doubt I will ever need to create a new FDF Document; but if I do, it should be easy enough from within Foxit, without needing a context menu option! However, my understanding is that an FDF Document is a PDF Document with "container" areas that can be filled in by the user (i.e., a fillable PDF form), and I'm sure there are Foxit users who regularly or frequently need to create new fillable PDF forms.

If it is preferable to keep the FDF Document option on the Explorer New context menu for those users, an alternative would be to give FDF Document its own separate keyboard shortcut key. For example, the second letter (D) appears to be available (at least on my system), so it would appear as FDF Document on the context menu. This seems to be the convention when the first letter is already used by a different option on a context menu (e.g., Alt-F-v for Print Preview in IE).

Then Alt-F-W-F would create a new sub-folder (as it has since Win3.1 if I recall correctly) and Alt-F-W-D would create an FDF Document.

Appreciate everyone's work on Foxit (i.e., forum moderators like christina (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/bbs/member.php?u=16707), the mysterious behind the scenes "developers" to whom christina (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/bbs/member.php?u=16707) often refers, and all the other thoughtful forum users).

I do the same stuff as gdanv with creating new folders

I use Tweakui to remove "FDF Document" and that works until i open the Foxit and it puts that short cut back.
i would just make it a software switch to add that feature

will suggest to delete it in the future version.
Thanks. I've just installed the only update released since I made my initial post, and unfortunately the issue is still there. Can you suggest to delete it again? :1_18: Thanks!

*EDIT*

Blimey, the smileys on here are massive!

I use TweakUI to remove a lot of programs from the NEW Menu, The FDF Document just keeps adding itself back, it is getting very annoying. You should give us a choice in the options to disable it so it doesn't keep coming back.

Thank You

I am another shortcut user (ALT-F-W-F), and I noticed that this issue is in place as of the latest version (2.3.2923). Even if you don't make any changes to the context item itself, would it be possible to allow it to stay removed once manually deleted (i.e., only create the registry entry during the installation process, and not on opening of Foxit)?

Looks like its a bit late to add a "me too" to this thread as it appears the wheel to resolve the issue has been set in motion. Anyway, still I'd like to say for me too this has been big cloud hanging over Foxit and I've been trying to find a solution to it since it appeared. So far, removing the template manually each time it appears (using TweakUI) was the best I managed to come up with.

Prominent among previous search results had been the regularly annoying Experts Exchange (and this is the relevant link) (http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Windows/XP/Q_23373512.html) a site that, though offering nothing to non-paying visitors, manages to regularly hijack top positions among Google results .:1_22:

So after all such hassle, today I've seen this thread for the first time, and it made me very happy to hear the issue is likely to to be resolved in future versions. :1_13:

Cheers!

I wanted to thank the devs for listening and including a fix for this in the most recent update. As of the latest build (3201), when I remove the FDF context item, it stays gone on my system.

Thanks for fixing that, and, generally, cheers for being responsive to user feedback.

It may only be a minor change from a developer's point of view, but for many users, specially those that often create new folders and got used to the right-click > "w" > "f" shortcut, it will have a major impact on Foxit's usablility score. For me, at least, it jumps up several points at once.
