We are currently evaluating the pdf ifilter in a MOSS 2007 environment, and notice that not all of the PDF files are being indexed. This applies to crawled content in external web sites as well as PDF files stored in SharePoint Document libraries. The specific SharePoint message is:

The filtering process could not be initialized. Verify that the file extension is a known type and is correct."

An example of a successful crawl is below:
Crawled"

Both PDF's were created in the same way.

Our server is Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 with Adobe Reader version 8.1.1 installed.

Can anyone tell us what to look for in a PDF file that might prevent it from being indexed?

Hi,

Would you please send ch8_4.pdf("http://servername.xxx.xxx.gov/docs/...s/ch8_4.pdf") to us (support@foxitsoftware.com) for testing?
And we promise your file will be kept confidential and only for test usage.

Thanks much.

We also are evaluating the pdf ifilter with MOSS 2007 and we have the same problem! Hundreds of documents give us the error message "The filtering process could not be initialized. Verify that the file extension is a known type and is correct" in indexer log.

The test with filtdump.exe on the same machine for these documents shows no problems.

We are also evaluating the IFilter and having similar problems ..

Most of the PDF that error with this message are actual scans of documents, rather than searchable PDF documents - so, other than logging an error - this is correct.

However, there are still quite a large number of valid PDF documents that errored

Any updates on a possible solution would be greatly appreciated

Cheers
Tom

Ditto for us, I'm trying to use the 32 bit iFilter and I get a lot of these warnings, but some do succeed. Please update us.

Does this fix also apply to the same error in the 64-bit version with MOSS 2007?

One of the new features that will be popping up in the game in the near future is the ability to "dual-spec," or have two separate sets of talents that can be easily switched between as the situation requires. world of warcrft gold (http://www.mmorpgvip.com/)To find out more about this feature, check out our Q&A http://www.wowgoldme.com with Senior Game Designer Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street.

???????? What does this have to do with MOSS 2007 and the PDF IFilter?

I believe Tuvw165's links have nothing to do with MOSS 2007 and Ifilter.
