I wanted to print a document "Canada's Toxic Tar Sands: The Most Destructive Project on Earth" at http://www.environmentaldefence.ca/reports/pdf/TarSands_TheReport.pdf
The report contains a fair number of color, dark graphics that would look good printed and appropriate to the subject matter.
However, if you print them on a black and white laser printer, and some of the areas with solid black backgrounds, you could quickly consume a toner cartridge.
This document also has a problem on the cover with the color contrasts lost in black and white. The document also has some details in some dark areas of color photos that get lost in black and white.
I don't have access to a color printer.
Question: is there any way to print a document like this without using a toner cartridge?
My HP laser printer driver has an option labeled "Econo mode (save toner)" which reduces the toner requirement reasonable. However, it also gives you very gray text that is far from ideal.
I tried doing a google search for the document and finding a hit with a view as html link to the pdf document.
Actually, google did a reasonably good job of reducing the document to text. It took me a while to recognize its system for rendering footnotes. In some cases, this might be a good option. A problem arises when a graphic is essential for understanding text.
Does anyone have any other ideas for printing a document like this?
Is there any option anywhere where you can separately set the quality of the graphics printed from the quality of the text?
