Hello CCSNET,
The easy way to permanently turn it off is to buy the product :). Maybe other guys know how to ....

Readers of this forum and Foxit should be made aware of an adverse comment in this week's Windows Secrets ezine - http://windowssecrets.com/comp/080717 It appears in the article titled "Software downloads are rife with deceptions". I visited the foxit home page and he is right, there is a prominent link to pay for the pro version but very little mention of the fact that Foxit Reader is free and can be downloaded easily from the download page without having to press any 'buy for free' buttons.
I constantly have to correct the Wikipedia page on Foxit Reader where people keep changing it to say it is a paid for product. Now I know why.
Foxit need to address this problem urgently. The mass market for Foxit Reader is only because it is a free alternative to the already free Adobe reader. I know they have to sell their pro products but should do it from a satisfied user base rather than by these sneaky ways. Bad publicity in a widely read newsletter is not what they want.

I think exactly like you. :1_11:
In a time where people are unsettled because of nearly more swindle offers in the world than normal offers such a thing which dont looks very important at the first view can be very important for the standing of a product.
On http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php People klick on one of the big Links "Get it for Free" and recognize that it is NOT free and justifiably conclude, that Foxit is no exception in the web of swindle and dont come again.
For people which dont want to search here is the quote of the article we talk about:
Hide the freebie. Software publishers often make a less full-featured version of their product available for free as a way to promote sales of the commercial version. Then they make the link to download the free version as difficult to find as possible.
It's as if the company had no confidence in the power of the free version to sell the full version. Moreover, the frustration of hunting for the free version causes some people to give up and choose an alternative program — or none at all.
Some of the more egregious examples of this scheme are the EditPad text editor (click the Free EditPad Lite link on the left and then scroll to the bottom of the EditPad Lite page) and Foxit Reader, a PDF-viewing alternative to Adobe Reader (resist the temptation to click the big, misleading "Get It Free" buttons and instead click the tiny "Download" link just above them).
Similarly, you can waste a lot of time hunting around Grisoft's site looking for the free version of the company's AVG Anti-Virus program unless you know that the freeware has its own separate Web address (free.avg.com).
To give credit where it's due, not all software publishers pull this trick. For example, in recent years both Real and Apple have made it much simpler to find the free version of their respective media players. Just go to each company's main page and use Real's "Get Real Player — Free" button and Apple's "Free Download" button.
If you find yourself spending too much time looking for the free version of a program, search for it at a big-name download site such as CNET's Download.com or SnapFiles. The chances are good that you'll get the very same product without all the up-sell pitches and other marketing distractions.

Actually it specifically says "To get the Pro Pack For Free". This will be fixed very soon. Thanks.

It seems people haven't fully understood the "problem" CCSNET has experienced. It is simple: You have to turn off every ad, not just one. Notice how there are different versions of the ad. Just open Foxit, disable the ad, and do this repeatedly (4-5 times should do it) until all the ads are gone completely.
I hope this helps.

Well, I've found that with the latest update the above solution no longer works. Maybe Foxit doesn't want us to turn off this advert and have made it harder to do so after figuring out that it could be turned off the way I described.

it's such a small add i don't even worry about it anymore.

Yes, that is true. However I think it should be optional. Foxit Reader is supposed to be free, and I understand they give away their reader to help bring attention to their other products, but I am not in need of anything but a good PDF reader, so it'd be nice if I could turn off the ad. I hope someone could come up with a fix for this, or better yet, Foxit could make it easier to turn off, if we so choose.
