This basic feature is indispensable in my view. One cannot select text properly. there is not even an option to "Select all."

What should "Select all" do? Selecting all text on current page or selecting text of all pages?

The same as it does in Adobe Reader — select all the text in the document. One can already select all text on the page with the mouse.

To select a range of text, click at the start, shift click at the end. Again, a basic and standard feature in many programs including Adobe Reader, but absent from Foxit Reader.

Just make 2 options:

ctrl+a = select all text on page where the caret is
ctrl+shift+a = select all text in document

ctrl+a = select all text on page where the caret is
ctrl+shift+a = select all text in document

Switch both options and it would be right. ctrl+a
always marks all text on all pages in all programs.
don't change this behaviour in FR.

Is it only me who has this problem with selecting text?
It hasn't been fixed in version 2.0 final.
Without this basic feature, Foxit Reader will never become my default viewer.

I love the speed that Foxit loads at, but then Adobe Reader also loads nearly as fast the second time around. Even after using Adobe Reader Speedup (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23766-order,1-page,1-c,alldownloads/description.html) it still takes about 12 seconds the first time, but then only about 3 seconds the next time. Foxit loads in 1 second even from a cold start. That alone, however, is not enough to make it my default viewer. After loading a file in Foxit, I find myself reloading the file in Adobe Reader because I need to select some text or because graphics don't render properly (Bug ticket sent for that)

Have you tried using the select tool, press the left mouse button the start & while holding down the button, use the keyboard arrows, pageup/dwn, home, end keys as you require? I have had no problems selecting the entire text of a document with this method.

What 'I' would like is for the graphics select tool to work the same way.... to be able to select more that what is visable on the screen.

You must have a special version. The cursor keys do nothing for me to select text, they just scroll the page. I can only select text that I can see on the screen.

I can zoom out to 10% but it makes it rather hard to tell what I am selecting.

Hi,
Our developers are working on this selecting problem.
I think it will be fixed in near future.

After upgrading to Windows XP, the problems with graphics disappeared, but this text selection problem seems even worse than before. (Screenshot)

Another problem is that the copy of Unicode text is not supported. This is also an essential feature for most non-English languages — Eastern Europe languages, for example use characters from Latin Extended-A and Latin Extended-B character sets. I also need full support for Latin Extended Additional.

If I copy this in Foxit Reader: āīūḷṃṇṅñṭ
What I get in Wordpad is: aiu[ ][ ][ ][ ]ñ[ ] where [ ] is an unsupported character and the macron vowels are changed to regular vowels.

Another limitation, is that text is copied as plain text. If I copy text in Adobe Reader 7.0 it is copied in Rich Text Format, so the font, font size, and font style is preserved. This is not essential, but would be a bonus.

I must wholeheartedly agree with Bhikkhu, I have been trying out Foxit Reader for the past few days and whilst I am impressed with the majority of its features, the inability to select all is quite a big handicap, I don't really see that this is a particularly unusual request (with most programmes it comes as standard), it should be fairly simple to implement and I therefore hope that something can be done very soon.

Unless it is hidden away somewhere, another very important feature, at least as far as I'm concerned, appears to be missing. It ought to be possible to search for a word or string and get a list of results with links to each one, all I can see is the facility to search for just one occurrence at a time.

Unfortunately, both the above mentioned features are very important to me and it is unlikely that I will stick with Foxit Reader long-term unless they are introduced.

TIA

Graham

PS
I just discovered that "select all" will work in Text Viewer mode, however you have to right click in order to see "selete all" (this spelling mistake needs fixing) and the shortcut alt+a appears to be broken.

PPS
Unfortunately, once you have selected all text, the "copy" function no longer works and it is therefore of no use whatsoever

On my system, the scroll wheel allows selection of larger than screen areas.

Acrobat does not support the scroll wheel on select, but does the windows
thingy of screen roll-up, IF you carefully place the cursor JUST off the
viewing area

Well, the spelling mistake has been corrected in the latest version, shame that nothing else has, in its present form the programme cannot reliably select text and is therefore unusable for me and, I suspect, many others.

Regrettably it's back to Acrobat Reader for me.
