I like the foxit reader for it small size and open speed.

But I found a problem when I set the foxit as my defalt pdf brower.
I ofen download pdf files from the internet and mostly direct click the download link on the page. The pdf files will be opened by foxit reader automaticly, then I can save them. Unfortunately, an error occurred when I used adobe acrobat to open those saved pdf files. The error was all the pages became blank with error massages (see attachment).

PS: All the pdf files were ok when did't set foxit reader as default pdf brower.

why did those erros happen? How to resolve them?

Are you using v2.3 3309? If not, please upgrade to and save as the file with it, then you will be able to open via adobe. If yes, please provide us a sample of the file. Thanks.

I am forced to use FoxIt Reader by the IT staff at my school (unsure of version) because they will not even install Adobe Reader, but many of the pdf files I download or open at school using FoxIt become unreadable by Adobe Reader, which is my default pdf program on my home computer. :1_23: The error message is usually something like "A number is out of range" and all the pages are blank. I am using the most current version of Foxit Reader at home and the most current version of Adobe Reader 9 at home as well.

Frankly, I do not like using FoxIt Reader, mostly because it does not give me the option to place buttons for 2-page facing and continuous facing views on the toolbar. In Adobe Reader I can place buttons for these on the toolbar, making these desired views (nice for 22" and larger monitors) much easier to access. In contrast, in FoxIt Reader I have to go into the View menu, then the Page Layout dropdown menu and select the view I want, which is much more tedious to access.

As far as I can tell, the only feature I like about FoxIt Reader is the ability to highlight, underline and comment documents, but this also renders the documents unreadable by Acrobat Reader.

Right now, I am being forced to change my default pdf reader to FoxIt because of how FoxIt Reader is corrupting so many of my pdf files.

The computers I am forced to use at school run are small Dell machines with Intel Pentium D or Core 2 Q6600 processors running Win XP Professional. I will try to find out what version of FoxIt Reader, but it's probably not the most current version.

The computer I am experiencing the problems on at home is running Windows Vista Home Premium, Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 on EVGA 132-CK-NF78 motherboard with 2GB of GEIL DDR2 800 RAM with EVGA 640MB 8800GTS video card and Creative XFi XtremeGamer PCI soundcard, and ASUS DRW-1612BL and ASUS DRW-2014L1T optical drives along with Sony 1.44" floppy disk drive.

Is this a problem that happened because of a conflict between an Adobe update versus the older FoxIt? :1_10:

Please help.

Hi OlorinTharkun,

1. The compatibility issue in queston above only happens in our reader v 2.3.3201, and has been fixed in our in v2.3.3309. You only need to save as with 3309 the file that has beed modified with 3201, then you will repaire it. Sorry for this inconvenience.

2. .... I do not like using FoxIt Reader, mostly because it does not give me the option to place buttons for 2-page facing and continuous facing views on the toolbar. ...

In the status bar within Foxit Reader window, there are buttons for you to switch between view modes. Can't you access them?

Thank you for your response to my post. I am still very frustrated by issue number 1, because the !@@&^% IT personnel for our dept refuse to make an update until the end of the semester in December sometime to fix the compatibility issue.

However, you are absolutely right about the buttons to switch between View modes... I like buttons, I just hate mousing through menus... I'm just not used to any buttons in the status bar... I always look for buttons in the toolbar. :1_31:

Thank you very much... that simple piece of information makes FoxIt Reader infinitely more palatable of a program to use.

btw, I really like the emoticons/smilies available for forum posts!

Just out of curiosity, this whole compatibility problem, I never experienced it before a recent Adobe update, so should I just blame Adobe for the whole problem? j/k

You're mostly welcome.

Well I don't realy uderstand what's your problem. But if you ever saved/saved as pdf files with our reader v2.3.3201, you may probably not be able to open them within adobe. In such a case, we admit it's our problem not others.

I've had the same problems with compatibility in Acrobat 9. Files were saved in ver 2.3.3201 (>100 unfortunately), with the "There is an error in this page" message when opened in Acrobat. Then they were saved in 3309. The newly saved files are OK in Acrobat for the first few pages, then a "Number out of range" error is displayed as I scroll through the document and some number of pages are displayed as blank or corrupted.

Version 3.0.2009.1301 appears to have the same issues that 3201 had.

Is there a fix for this, or do I need to search the internet for all of these files again and save them through Acrobat? I can send example files to anyone interested in seeing the symptoms.

BTW, this is indicative of a very poor validation processes on the part of Foxit. Anything created or saved as a .pdf through their applications should ALWAYS be compatible with arguably the largest installed base of .pdf readers, not just their own. That's the fundamental idea behind the .pdf format: portability. This kind of problem should never see the light of day. I was a big fan of this application suite until now.
