Default Outgoing internet traffic with each application start

I just installed Foxit Reader 4 (from your official download page), nice one, thanks a lot!

Although I did not install the Ask-toolbar and unchecked automatic update checking Foxit reader connects to a server (a russian one, I think) with each application startup (which doesn't look dangerous but like some kind of usage tracking).

How can I stop that?

Looks like an (intentional) bug to me, though I hope it's not.

Please turn the checks off in the next release.

Some technical background info:

On startup Foxit connects to the following IP (no it's not some Russian one ;) ) belonging to Foxit and apparently performs an update check.

Code:
67.192.253.140 www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/update/request.php?language=en&ad_version=r0.0&mac=[[LONG UID]]

If the auto update is turn off, it won't do update check. No communication with Foxit update server.

Regards
Christina

Default Outgoing traffic

Hello,

thats not correct.
On one of my machines where version 4 is installed autoupdate is disabled.
In face of this disabled thing it trys to connect at every startup.
I have downloaded and installed the msi. package.

I used the exe installer, but see the same: no matter what you set in the update settings, a connection is performed at every startup.

Hello All,

As the code posted by MrFan, this connection is created by the Advertisement built in Reader. It's safe, and it only checks the Foxit ad server to see if there any update available.

Regards
Christina

Hello,

that sounds good but i think this an unwanted feature by many users.
So please discuss to switch this of with one of the next updates.
