Special Characters

I want to use the special character in a text field:

[ and ]

When I type one of the above, lots of funny stuff happens.

Obviously these characters are special to a pdf. How do I escape
their special meaning so that I can use them?

an example:

[test text] normal stuff.

[Jessamine]

Please try to add \ before the special characters.
