I think I am not the only one stuggling with the problem that PDF Creator does not support Vista 64x, and so I would like to share my exchange of information with the community.
Ronnie ---- Original Message ----- From: Ronnie To: support@foxitsoftware.com Sent: Friday, November 23, 2007 12:26 AM Subject: PDF Creator evaluation for Vista64x Ladies and Gentlemen, I am struggling right now with a problem installing your PDF Creator (latest available build for download) on a 64x Vista Ultimate machine and I already wasted 2 hours on trying to fix this by myself before I have seen users in your BBS already talking about the same, already known, problem. I installed Foxit Reader V2.2 first which seems to work fine. When I install PDF Creator I receive these error messages: "Canīt delete Foxit PDF Driver. Please close all the programs that may be using the printer and try again, or click 'CANCEL' to quit." Selecting OK I get this one. "Error happend to Foxit PDF Creator, installation might not be complete. Error tag = Foxit PDF driver canīt be deleted(1797):Der Druckertreiber ist unbekannt. Please report this error to Foxit (support@foxitsoftware.com). Thanks!" I am having Admin rights on my machine. So this should not be the problem. In addition I already removed the Foxit PDF Driver through my printer menu server properties because this printer is listed there but not visible and selectable within the printer section. Then I also cleaned registry for that. Nothing better I am totally stuck right now If I can provide you more details about my system configuration then please let me know. It will be a pleasure for me to help you tracking down this install problem. For your understanding: I am evaluating your product right now to make a decision for all our technical staff in Europe to get rid of expensive and slow Adobe stuff. I need to make a decision for a new product until early next week and would be glad to hear that you can fix this problem, which you already know about, within short term. I am also currently evaluating Win2PDF which is running without any problem on Vista64x. So, if you donīt see any chance to fix this problem soon, then we need to spend our money on buying our licenses from Win2PDF. I agree that this is not a helpful response. Users of 64 bit systems are between the rock (Foxit or other developers) and the hard place (Microsoft). What a shame. Vista's been on the market long enough, though I suppose Foxit like the others are waiting for Vista SP1 to hit the market.
Too bad Foxit...Adobe here I come. Ugh. ![]() Quote:

Hi all. You can still convert documents to pdf without adobe.
I suggest using dopdf. It's completely free and supports vista. I just testing it out and it will supplement foxit well until they create their own 64 bit compatible pdf converter. After I converted the document with the dopdf virtual printer it opened the file in foxit reader right away. (Sorry for the advertising like post, but just trying to help) later |

I have been able to install Foxit PDF Creator on my Vista Ultimate machine, and have also integrated it into Microsoft Word 2000.
However, it cannot convert hyperlinks that work in my MSWord doc. It shows the "Converting links" box, but then gets stuck - won't do anything, however long I leave it. Does anyone have any idea why this happens, and what to do with it? |
