Foxit Software now invites you to become our volunteer UI translator to localize our popular Foxit Reader into your language. You will be able to make a difference. The translation process is simple, easy and fast. Foxit Software highly appreciate your contribution to our product.
Basically you have two choices. You may either use our translation website at http://languages.foxitsoftware.com Or you may simply follow the steps below to download and translate a xml file. Following is the instruction on how to translate the UI xml file. Step 1, download the English.xml which is attached to this topic. Please don't click on the attachment link directly because this will open the xml file in the browser window in a read-only mode. Instead, right click on the the attachment link and save it as a xml file. Step 2, open the English.xml with Notepad. Step 3, translate the file into your langeuage: You only need to translate all those text attributes. Here is an example: English version: <memuitem id="57601" text="&Open... Ctrl+O" /> Simplified Chinese version: <memuitem id="57601" text="打开(&O)... Ctrl+O" /> Here, Ctrl+O means user can use shortcut key to open the file. And &O means when File menu get focus, user can use Alt+O to open the file. Step 4, choose "Save As" from the File menu, name your file using following format: LanguageName_CountryName.xml. You may check the attached text file to find the proper file name. Also, from the dropdown list of Encoding, choose UTF-8, then click on Save. Step 5, download the Foxit Reader 2.0 from Run the reader, from the menu choose the language you just translated. The reader's UI will immediately switch to your language. You may check the UI to make sure your translation is correct. If you want to swich back to English UI, simply choose menu "Language/Default". Step 6, come to this forum and check whether a topic for your language has been created. If yes, then simply reply to this topic. Otherwise, create a new topic for your language. In either case, upload your translated xml file as an attachment. You may comment on other people's translation. By using the translation website or submitting the translate the xml file, you agree on following disclaimer: DISCLAIMER OF COPYRIGHT IN TRANSLATIONS OF PARTS OF PROGRAMS I, do hereby acknowledge to the Foxit Software Company (Foxit), that I disclaim all copyright interest in my works, which consist of translation of portions of Foxit software programs from one human language to another human language, that I have provided to the Foxit or that I will provide in the future. The programs to which this applies include all programs for which Foxit is the copyright holder. The translations covered by this disclaimer include, without limitation, translations of textual messages, glossaries, command or option names, help files, user interface text, and the like, contained within or made for use via these programs. It would be nice to be able to personally check the language file in action, so unnecessary errors can be avoided, such as colliding ampersand characters. Could you add an 'import' option for XML language files to FoxitReader so checks can be made 'live'?

Hi Klojum,
Thank you for your suggestion. We will post a testing reader here so that you may test your translation immediately. However, please use this reader just for testing purpose and please do not circulate it because it is not a formal release version. |

Another suggestion for translation website: please make it automatically translate all same words in all pages, for example if I translate "Print setup" in "Imposta stampante" (italian translation for print setup) it should translate "Print setup" with "Imposta stampante" in every page same expression is present. This could be very useful optimization because there are a lot of repeating words/expressions translated always in the same way so there are no needs to write them manually every time Last edited by silviaros; May 23rd, 2006 at 03:19 AM. |

The reason why we don't merge duplicate words is because sometimes, translation of these words depends on the context. These words appear on different parts of the UI, and the translation might be different.

oh ****...
no german umlaute and when | used as tab-format it shows a box (english_us.xml original). it still must be a hex <09> additional some strings are not use eg. "page layout" - they are not in the xml file (again hardcoded) the language is not stored. build 1621 pro had still hardcoded stuff - i cant count it no longer. |

Hi ditto,
When you use "save as" to save your translation, have you chosen UTF-8from the dropdown list of Encoding? |
