Default Can you please get a normal installer

I just spent 20 minutes tracking down the installation of this software across my home network which was not a very fun task this early in the morning.

I love the software btw, down with Adobe and all other adware laden crap.

To have no installer is my main reason to use this program.
I put the "FoxitReader.exe" in C:\Programme\pdfrd\
When there is a new version I only override the old "FoxitReader.exe" with the new one.

I wholeheartedly agree that the lack of an installer is one of the programs strong points (though my main reason for using it is its lack of bloat).

I realize that installers usually make things easier for newbies, but they can annoy or inconvenience advanced users, and I believe advanced users must be a majority of this particular program's user population.

Novice users will likely continue with the bloated Adobe product, most never having any objection to it, and most others never realizing alternatives exist, or never looking for alternatives.

Smile You want an installer, you got an installer :-)

I too was searching for an installer for the Foxit PDF Reader. I need it 'cos not all folks (not all of my customers) can handle concepts like unzipping a file somewhere sensible and then using it, making shortcuts on menus, etc, etc.

I find it strange that so many people spent so much time beating up on the poor guy who wanted an installer. Zoner in particular was pretty harsh - you won't last long in the new IT industry, feller, if you insist on calling your CUSTOMERS (you know, the people who ultimately pay your wages) "users" - that's just wrong.

Anyway, in what I hope is a refreshing change, I decided not to join in on the whinging and complaining, instead, I went out and wrote an installer.

The installer is here FoxitReader1.3Beta.zip. It works well on my machine, I hope it works well on yours. (It's 1.3 megabytes in size, slightly smaller than the original zip file that Foxit Reader ships in, so I couldn't attach it directly to this message, sorry)

Note though that this is in no way connected to the Foxit Software Company. They didn't write this installer, and you don't get to ask them for technical support on this installer. If it works for you, great. If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

I wrote the installer using the free Inno Setup software. Full source code for this installer is inside the installer, in the license section. Remember to edit the path settings to make them suit you if you want to tinker.!

Enjoy! I hope it proves useful!
