  • "Signature Validity is UNKNOWN" when digitally signing document

I am using an Entrust document signing certificate to digitally sign documents (Sign & Certify --> Place Signature) in Foxit PhantonPDF 8.0.1.628.

When this document is sent to a third party and they double click the signature, they get a message saying the signature validity is UNKNOWN.

Here is what I have tested:
Signed with Foxit Phantom, opened on different computer with Foxit Reader (UNKNOWN error)
Signed with Foxit Phantom, opened on different computer with Adobe Reader 15 (UNKNOWN error)
Signed with Adobe Reader 15, opened on different computer with Foxit Reader (UNKNOWN error)
Signed with Adobe Reader 15, opened on different computer with Adobe Reader 15 (VALID!)

I would prefer not to use Adobe for signing but it seems to be the only product that works.

    Your help is appreciated.

mdfi13 could you please check the certificate information with the file 'signed with Adobe Reader 15 and opened on different computer with Adobe Reader 15 (VALID!)' and send us a screenshot like the one attached? And when you testing, did you use the same certificate?

Hi Doris, yes the same certificate was used for all testing. Here are the screenshots you requested:

          Dear mdfi13,

For this situation you mentioned, please help to give us the cerficate you mentioned for us to take a closer testing first.
To know how to export the private key with the certificate file, please refer to the attached document.
For security reason, please help to send the cerficate file to support@foxitsoftware.com (Attn:Lisa). And indicate this thread link. Thank you.

mdfi13 Thanks for the information. From the screenshot, the parent certificate of the one you used is a trusted indentity in Adobe. That's why it does not show as UNKNOWN error. Currently the parent certificates is not supported in Foxit. We are managing to support the function as well in future version.
