scfeng .Hope you are doing well and we apologize that you have a bad experience in using the newly designed format panel in our Foxit PDF Editor V11.

This does not appear to be a bug, it was in the prior version (V10!!!!) as a design feature in the ribbon.

Actually, DO NOT allow a side panel!! KEEP IT IN THE RIBBON.
The side panel obscures the workspace!

Additionally, do not allow auto opening of a context menu in a set and forget setting!
Let the user decide when and where they want to navigate!

The version 10 ALSO automatically switched your ribbon when you started using typewriter!! THIS WAS ALSO NOT GOOD.
It necessitated unnecessary extra clicking to switch to highlighting and other features as needed!
Typewriter settings are "set and forget" settings that I do not need to see every time I use it. I set it one or two times in a document.

    Thank you!

I'm a user of Foxit for more than 15 years. I'm here to second others' complaints about the ABSOLUTELY STUPID new format panel!
The guy who came up with this design SHOULD BE FIRED IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!

Actually there is a bug on the Comment format, when you close the format panel while using comment tool, like typewriter(except measure), the panel should not appear automatically while commenting until you enable it manually. It is known issue, our team will fix it asap. ID#QCPHANTOM-27715.

    Sorry for the trouble.

I have just signed up to say that I agree with what people say here. The format panel should have an option to close it unless it is needed again, as others have mentioned. I like the modern new design, but I'm gonna have to go back to the previous version. Please keep me informed when this "issue" is solved.

Super long-time user. I was there at the beginning and am ALWAYS grateful for a working PDF application. Foxit has always worked better than the other versions, even paid versions of popular programs that I own. My ongoing complaint has always been the need to reformat and personalize after every update! Please keep my preferences.

I updated today hoping that the primary functions would not be disrupted and that my workflow would remain excellent in the program. Sadly, the format box makes the program all but unusable. I already have to spend endless hours annotating papers and this is now completely disrupted.

The prior ability to open the formatting or anything else one needed to do in the ribbon as needed was excellent and seamless with other ribbon based interactions across programs.

This current iteration is a total disruption of workflow. Further, the ability to learn the application and use it across updates should RARELY be disrupted. When a user takes an action in a flow of work, NEVER disrupt it! Let the user choose to open and change things when needed on their own, then they can set and forget...and work quickly.

11 is uninstalled. I have days of work to do. I am going back to 10. I hope you can return to a more user workflow-focused application.

+1 this 'new feature' is super annoying. Severely limits the split screen utility of the app. Please go back to the old layout.

I am also a long time user and find this feature very annoying. I agree a horizontal panel should be better. As long as the function can be disabled and the document pane is not obscured.

    Please fix asap : )

It has become impossible to work on documents with many notes, especially if you have to frequently switch between them.
For the time being, I'll have to resort to other PDF readers, despite the fact that for me the new UI looks really nice!
Hope you are able to fix this issue soon.

    Thank you!

Edit: the format toolbar would be a really helpful feature if you could just open it manually.

abracus I'm not sure exactly what you meant by "other PDF readers", but if you're basically happy with PhantomPDF, you may want to use version 10 until they get this issue sorted out. I believe one of the moderators posted a download link earlier.

    Hi everyone,

I'm here just to highlight that i feel the same way about this new feature. It is really bad and time consuming. Love Foxit Reader and have been using it for a while now. This is the first time that i had the need to come here and talk about a feature that it is no usefull and does not have a workaround.

Hope you guys fix it soon.
