  • Foxit Reader will not ask to overwrite files when creating .pdf

When I print to the foxit pdf printer, an a file name of the same type already exists, call it test.pdf, rather than ask me if I want to overwrite the file, it creates a new one called test (1).pdf. Is there a setting to have it ask to overwrite?

    Dear JS30303,

The overwrite option got changed in version 8.1.0.In the If File Exists field, if "overwrite existing file" is selected, the printer will not pop up any confirmation message when overwriting an existing file.We have recognized that this is a risk way for users without being aware this change,so we have submitted this request" Overwrite existing Files with confirmation when printing"to our internal feature system with suggestion ID#PHANTOM-7144,so that it may be considered in future versions.

If you would like to go back to the previous version 8.0 for a temporary solution, here is the download link:

I think it is a good default option for us I think. Sometimes you can avoid bad effect from overwriting your file when you overwrote a good version of the document you didn't intent to do.
