Thank you cherry for pointing me to that dialog.
I was using the Foxit PhantomPDF Plugin for Mozilla' already with its very limited facilities. Mozilla; not Opera?
The 'Open with default application' option had the path to PhantonPDF.exe greyed out but I checked it anyhow and it seems to work Ok.

Hi pjbw127,
Please open your Opera browser, click on 'Opera' icon at the very left top->'Settings'->'Preferences'->'Advanced' tab->'Downloads'->choose 'application/pdf pdf' from the list, then click on 'Edit'->choose Foxit PhantomPDF Plugin for Mozilla' under 'Use plug-in'. Please give it a try and let us know if you have any further questions.

Phantom as default pdf app in Opera?
I have PhantomPDF 5.1.1.1214 in W7 32-bit Professional.
How do I configure Opera 11.61 to use PhantomPDF as its default PDF application?
