  • Outlook Add-On identification

We're running into an issue (not Foxit's fault) of Outlook habitually disabling all add-ons because some of them are causing slow load times. In going into the registry to fix the issue, I discovered that the Foxit add-on is poorly identified.

At HKLM:\software\microsoft\office\outlook\addins\ you can see the list of currently installed add-ons. Most of them are nicely identified (with names like Box.*, Groove.*, OneNote.*, or *.LyncAddin), but the Foxit add-on is using a disturbingly generic name that makes it difficult to identify: "OutlookAddin.OutlAddin".

Request: Would you rename it like other products, so it's easily identified? Perhaps something like "Foxit.OutlookAddin"?

Just fyi, it's still a blandly generic name. Nothing prevents some other company from producing an add-in with the same generic name, causing namespace collision with your product. Here's the powershell output for the Foxit name.

      PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> cd HKLM:\software\microsoft\office\outlook\addins\
      PS HKLM:\software\microsoft\office\outlook\addins\> dir | Select-Object -Property Name

      Name
      ----
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\office\outlo ok\addins\MimecastServicesForOutlook.AddinModule
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\office\outlo ok\addins\MSIP.OutlookAddin
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\office\outlo ok\addins\OutlookAddin.OutlAddin
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\office\outlo ok\addins\ZoomOutlookPlugin.OutlookConnector

      PS HKLM:\software\microsoft\office\outlook\addins\>

twalker.TNC ,Thanks for getting back to us.Currently, the registry item name for Foxit outlook addin is really not easy to identify. I have reminded our product management team of this situation again to ask them to consider to give it a new name as you mentioned(such as 'Foxit.OutlookAddin').
