I guess that it's a problem of lacking the Administrator privileges (win 7 system) because often some other operations (of other programs) in the main directory were also being stopped (but fortunately only for asking about the Administrator privileges, while here, in phantomPDF, I could only save in another folder).
    You can get rid of it by right clicking Foxit PhantomPDF program and run as admin before you open file for edit.

    I don't have Advanced Editor so it wouldn't be because of that. It happens alot, but occasionally, it will save the file properly. Most of the time when I save a pdf from the internet, open it on Foxit, edit it, and then try saving it, that error message pops up.

    I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it did not remedy the situation.
    So weird.Would you mind making a small video of your whole operations so i could forward it to our QA team for reference and figure out the problem?
    You can send it to [email protected], thank you.

    Hi Tatl,

    Thanks for your update.Does it happen to every pdf file you encounter?I suspect you open the pdf file both with Foxit PhantomPDF and Advanced Editor, because only when the file opened with Advanced Editor, it will created an ~$file.pdf, so when you make comment and try to save it, it will indicate this error message.
    If i am wrong, may i advise you to uninstall Foxit PhantomPDF manually and reinstall it then give it a try?

    How you know if the pdf is read-only or is protected? When I click the pdf's properties, the read-only checkbox is unchecked. Also, I tried putting the pdf into Linux to change permissions on the file that way via chmod, but that did not work either.

    The default program that opens the pdf is Foxit Phantom. Whenever I try saving it and it gives me that error message and if I cancel saving the pdf, it creates a duplicate pdf with the changes, but named differently:

    Ex. file.pdf -> ~$file.pdf

    First, please make sure the file is not protected and read only.
    Second, please make sure the file is only opened with Foxit PhantomPDF.

  • File could not be saved because it was read-only or opened by another user.

    Whenever I try to save a pdf after writing comments on it, it always gives me this message:

    "The document could not be saved. The file may be read-only, or opened by another user, please save the document with a different name or in a different folder."

    Anyone know how to fix this?
