  • Bug Editing PDF text

    Hi.

I noticed when I take a PDF edited in Adobe and work on it with Foxit, some parts of the text do not remain intact and are different than the previous text. For instance, when I add text in between other texts in the PDF document, Foxit doesn't usually get it right. The font is larger and slightly different. While one can select "Edit everything" including graphics, then only certain words are "boxed" for editing. In contrast, editing text (only) option will allow me to edit everything including adding more text and expanding the large text box that I have created but I can't change the font at all.

As a result, I had to return back to Adobe and edit the PDF there.

Haass Can you please check that font was installed into system? In general, Foxit will add/edit text with a replaced font when the original font did not installed. Which may looks slightly difference.
Also, could you please provide the PDF file to us for testing? Thanks in advance. (If there is any privacy info, please submit a ticket to us and enclose pdf file.)

amanda_liang Hi, thanks for replying. Unfortunately, I can't provide you the document due to legal and privacy reasons. The computers used both were running WIndows 11 with the latest update.

But to re-iterate, Foxit got some of the fonts right (in the same paragraph) but most of the fonts were wrong. There was no consistency. I could type in the PDF text and randomly Foxit would choose a similar but different font. Therefore, I'm left to believe it's not a font issue per se, rather something else where Foxiit couldn't accurate recognize the text (while typing/adding/editing text) in the same sentence or the same paragraph.

I don't use Foxit much but rather as a backup should I not bring my work laptop home. I think I'll just need to keep using my work laptop, which has Adobe Acrobat Pro installed.

Haass,Thanks for your response.I suspect that the font of those texts you edited is embedded font. But the document itself does not embed all of its total 26 letters belonging to the embedded font in the document. For example, if the embedded font has only 25 letters from a to y embedded in the file, and z is not embedded, then when you edit the texts, and input the letter z, then the z letter will not be added with the embedded font, Instead, our Foxit PDF Editor will call a similar font from your system font library (C:\Windows\Fonts) to display it, so that the z letter will look slightly different from the other texts.

Anyway,To further find out the root cause of the problem that you encountered, the document in questions is essential. For the security of the doument, you could choose to create a new copy of the file and then use the "Protect > Whiteout" feature in Foxit PDF Editor to remove all of its sensitive information prior to sending us the file. Please submit a ticket to us and enclose pdf file. The file you send will be kept confidential and only be used for internal testing.

        Look forward to your reply.

          Thanks Lisa. I'll do that.

On another note which is similar. When I select Edit Object>All the existing structure of the document (any PDF document) will create a rectangular box around each sentence within the paragraph. In contrast. Adobe doesn't do this. The result is that you can't simply type away within that document. You're limited by the individual rectangular boxes for each line or however Foxit decides to read it. In Adobe, there is one large box where the entire text is laid out and you can simply type normally. Should you type more inside the allowable (large box) area you can just extend the box further by making it larger.

With Foxit, you have to manually expand each sentence or line (however Foxit reads it) which is extremely tedious. The edit text option has the same issue, but it works better within some PDFs than others. And this edit text seems to function like Adobe's Edit Object All, which is a good thing.

Although I prefer Foxit's interface and ease of use in general, these two issues are reason for me to use Adobe as a "text" editor for PDFs. Hopefully, future versions of Foxit will resolve these issues.

Haass, Thanks for getting back to us. To do paragraph editing in Foxit PDF Editor, you have to use the "Edit Text" this tool. With the Edit Text tool, you can edit texts in a paragraph (large box) like Microsoft Office Word as well as change their font, font size, and color. With the "Edit Object>All" tool, you could select one text/image/shape object only at a time when you single click on text/image/shape on a PDF page.
If there is any difficulty in editing the PDF document with our Foxit PDF Editor application, it is recommended that you provide us with a specific PDF file to be edited so that we will further advice based on the specific document sample.

            Look forward to your reply.

I am having a similar issue. I want to edit a document by adding some text. The font I use on the original Word document is Univers Com 45 Light. When I saved the Word document as PDF the fonts remained correct. The font appears in my C:\Windows\Fonts folder. However, when I add text to the PDF document it is defaults to Helvetica. If I copy the text in the Word document with the correct font, when I paste it in the Foxit document, the font changes to Halvetica. If I highlight the text and choose Univers Com 45 Light, nothing happens. The font remains unchanged. If I change to a different font, changes are made. It seems that the Univers Com fonts are not supported somehow...?

[email protected].We apologize for any difficulty using Foxit Software. I have tried to install the Univers Com 45 Light font into my system and edited/added texts with Univers Com 45 Light font in PDF file in the latest version 12.0.1 of Foxit PDF Editor on my side, the texts could be edited and added as desired. I have recorded a demonstration video for your reference, please click here to download it and then help to refer to the instructions shown in the video to edit texts again on your side to see how it goes.
If the issue will persist on your side, please help to send us the word file and PDF file in question, click on the "Help" tab>"About Foxit application" to check its version number, and also help to use the LiceCap tool to generate an animated gif that shows the whole procedures about how you could replicate this issue:
                Here's the download link:

(Unzip it, then double-click on licecap file, you can then specify the recording area then hit "Record", it requires naming the file first then start recording.)

If it is not convenient to upload the required documents on the forum, please help to submit a ticket from our ticket submission center to attach those documents for us (in the ticket subject please input Lisa attn there). The files you send will be kept confidential and only be used for internal testing.

                Look forward to your reply.

What I found is that the text I wanted to add included a "/" symbol (e.g., State / Province). Before the slash, the text was Univers Com. After the slash, the text reverted back to Helvetica. ...strange...
