  • Can't seem to move a text block from one page to another

    Hello,

I want to modify an existing pdf by moving around some text blocks. Can someone explain the procedure for moving a text block to another page? I can modify the text within the text boxes, I can move the text boxes around on the SAME page, I can re-size the text boxes (provided I do not go to the next page) etc.

I cannot however add another blank page, and move these text boxes to it. I can copy and then paste into a new "typewriter" block of text, but then all formatting disappears.

    Thank you.

Are you using Foxit PhantomPDF? For better advising, would you mind sending us the file sample you mentioned to [email protected] and let us know which text block you want to move so we could have a try on our end?Thank you.

I am using Foxit PhantomPDF v 7.0.6.1126. This is not specific to a certain PDF. Just try to create a microsoft word document, type a few lines into it, then print to PDF.

Then, once you open the pdf with PhantomPDF, add another blank page to the pdf, and then go to the EDIT tab, then click "Edit Text." You won't be able to move that text block directly to the next page. Same story applies when you have a multipage pdf (one that you did not manually create a second page) - you cannot move text blocks to another page.

As I've said, you can copy/paste, but this can hose up formatting of the original text. When you have a lot of text to move, you can't be spending all sorts of time re-formatting the text.

      Thank you

        Hi Varg,

Yes, it cannot use move the text block to next page by Edit>Edit text tool. Please try to go to Edit >Edit Object>All/Text, please view pages in continuous mode, select all texts you want, move the text block near the buttom of the page, then you can move it to next page, because the pages will not scroll automatically when you move down the text block, so you may need to scroll down manually and move the text block down gradually, when you can see the next page, you can drag the text block to next page directly. Actually, I think copying/cutting/pasting is good way to that.

          Hello,

"Actually, I think copying/cutting/pasting is good way to that." No, it is not. I've explained that cutting / copying / pasting destroys formatting. I work with large documents containing mathematical equations, and the formatting gets ruined with this method. This is not a good solution.

" Please try to go to Edit >Edit Object>All/Text, please view pages in continuous mode, select all texts you want, move the text block near the buttom of the page, then you can move it to next page, because the pages will not scroll automatically when you move down the text block, so you may need to scroll down manually and move the text block down gradually, when you can see the next page, you can drag the text block to next page directly."

I do not have the option to go to "Edit >Edit Object>All/Text". I have attached a screenshot of the ribbon under the EDIT tab, and I have no such command. I have searched through the list of "all commands" and see no such command. It also does not work to simply move the texts to another page like you have said, believe me I've tried. Viewing in continuous mode does not help at all.Click image for larger version

Have you successfully (and I do NOT mean by copying/ pasting) moved text from one page to another?

@Varg, The Edit Object is under Edit menu, it seems yours is disabled, please go to Help->Foxit Plug-ins and look for Edit Object and enable it then have a try.

@richell_huang - it looks like that was what I was missing. Thank you richell_huang and lyndi_wu for your help and suggestions - my tasks should be much simpler going forward!
