  • Bug Open PDF in Foxit Phantom from network location, PDF Corrupt

I have a handful of users who have been having the following happen. They open a PDF from a share on our File server. They add comments, save the PDF. They leave the PDF open in Foxit PhantomPDF and then put their laptop into standby. They power back up on their home network, VPN back into our network and switch to the already open PDF in Foxit Phantom, they say they get a message that the PDF is corrupt from Foxit Phantom. They cannot save the PDF locally anywhere to their computer, nor back to the original location, which they can browse to from Windows Explorer. We have to restore the file from our backups after this happens for the user to be able to open and/or modify it.

I've obviously told the users that it's not a good idea to leave documents open that they opened off the network and then disconnect from the network. They ask me why, as they can do it with their Microsoft Office 2010 documents without issue.

Have I hit a bug? Or is Foxit Phantom working as it should?

Well, it is a little complicated, we need your assitance to write down the detailed operation steps and your work environment so our QA team could simulate your situation and try to reproduce it on our side and please also include the corrupt screenshot so we could have a closer look, thank you.

I have now had this happen where a user opened a PDF on our network, added comments, went to save, could not and found if he exited out (losing his comments), and re-opened the PDF he received an error that the file was corrupted.

The two users that have had this happen are running Windows 7 Professional with Service Pack 1, 64-bit. They are both running Foxit PhantomPDF Standard edition, version 5.4.2.0918. The both are accessing folders on our main File Server, a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise server through a user share they both have full permissions to. The PDFs they are opening/modifying were orignially created by printing either a PTC Pro/Engineer drawing or AutoCAD Mechanical 2006 drawing to PDF.

They have then re-opened the PDF to add comments/annotations to the PDF. After they do so, if they try and save their changes, they get a pop-up with an error icon in it, but no details on the error. They close and re-open the PDF and they get an error from Foxit PhantomPDF that the PDF is now corrupt.

1.In your previous post, you said that the users left the computer for somtimes and when they went back to the file, it was corrupted. What about this time, the same as last time?
2.Please make a screenshot of the error icon.
3.Please attach one file sample for a closer test.
4.Please describe your network server environment detailed on how do you logon it so we could simulate your situation and try to reproduce it on our side.

          1. The issue is still occurring.
          2. Have passed that request onto my users.
          3. Will attach a file sample as soon as I get one.
          4. Our file server is Dell PowerVault NF600, running Windows Server 2003 Standard (x64), we have multiple file shares on the server, the particular one the user's access, they have full access to. The server is attached to our network through a Gigabit switch (Server Switch), the users who have had this problem are connected to a separate gigabit switch that has a 4Gbps trunk between the Server Switch and the User switch. The two users that have reported this are both running Windows 7 Professional (x64). They are also both running the latest PhantomPDF 5.4. The file server and the user's and their PCs are all part of the same Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory domain.
