  • Bug won't scan

I've been using the Foxit reader for a while at home, and I was looking into purchasing PhantomPDF Business because I need software to scan paperwork as well as PDF software to do stuff like change page layouts / change margins / etc. on a regular basis and I'm getting very tired of Adobe Acrobat. So I downloaded the trial version to make sure that it works, and well, honestly, let me place this youtube video here because this guy has EXACTLY the same problem I have and does a much better job of describing it in the video than I can in a short forum post.

The only difference is that I'm running 5.2.1.0615. Otherwise, same multifunction printer and exactly the same error. Obviously I've searched around a little because I found this video, but if anyone has suggestions, I'd love 'em. Unfortunately, because this is one of the two main tasks I use, this bug is kind of a showstopper for me. Anyway, if you have any easy suggestions that could get me on the road to ownership, please let me now. I'd rather not have to go to an Adobe upgrade if I don't have to.

    Hi JonnyBoy,

The scan problem should have been improved in next release. However, I've also reported this issue to our internal bug tracking system for investigation and tracking. Report ID#: 38145.

        Hi JonnyBoy,
The bug you describe and the youtube demo is the very same problem I have experienced. I have a Canon MG6250. One difference is that unfortunately I paid for the software before finding out about this "showstopper" of a bug. I have posted this problem elsewhere in the forum and cherry has responded with some suggestions but alas without success.
Are you running Win7 64 bit? Was the Phantom version 64 bit? My internet searching came up with the discovery that Canon has never released a 64 bit scanner driver. My computer has Win7 64 bit. When I run 64 bit versions of Phantom's competitors, I also experience scanning problems. After loading 32 bit versions of the same programs, scanning works perfectly. I tried to install the 32 bit version of Phantom, but the installer package prevented the installation.
I have been waiting for some time for a solution to the issue we are experiencing, and was hoping for a Resolution rather than just an Improvement in the release of Version 6. Just in case the problem lives on in the new version, I would really like to be able to install the 32 bit version on my 64 bit computer to see if the problem occurs with that version. I would hope that Foxit could make it possible to choose which package we install.
Cherry has predicted that Version 6 will be released in November. In the meantime, for your info, scanning works perfectly with 32 bit versions of PDF X-Change, Nitro and Paperport.

The 32-bit version is only working for 32-bit pc, so you can not install it on 64-bit pc.
We plan to release V5.4 in Sep 6, please keep an eye on it.

              Hi Euva,

Thanks for mentioning your experience, and I guess it's not limited to my scanner. I have to admit, I'm not the brightest person when it comes to scanners; but I think I'm using the TWAIN interface and not WIA, which I vaguely remember being very poorly implemented for what I was hoping to do. I don't know if that has anything to do with my problems. Anyway, I upgraded to 5.4.0.0902 the other day, but ran across the same problem. Perhaps they meant that it would be addressed in version 6. I'm certainly not in a rush and it is only for myself. I have an acceptable solution in Acrobat 7.0 for the moment, but that's getting a little long in the tooth and has more than a few security holes that I'd rather plug. Let me know if you have any success; I do check these forums semi-regularly. Alternately, if someone needs me to run a diagnostic version or something like that; I'm happy to do so although it might take me a day or three even for simple diagnostics.
