  • Bug PhantomPDF installation - "Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error"

I'm unable to install PhantomPDF Business 5.1.1.1214 trial version on XP SP3 EN. It looks fine, until "Writing registry.." and then setup rollback whole
installation process. Your setup does not provide any information about problem and rollback installation without ask yes/no/ignore...

So I tried to switch MSI installer to maximum loglevel, but it does not help too much. Looks like problem is caused when installing printer:

Is there any possibility to install virtual printer driver manually or get more info how to fix "InstallFinalize. Return value 3." ?
I tried to install other printer hw and virtual printer driver, both installations work fine - so IMHO problem is not in operating system.

    Hi drobik.tn,

Please go to 'Start'-> input services.msc in the search line to bring up the Services window->find 'Print Spooler'-> right-click on it and stop the service.
After you've stopped the service, please try to re-install and let us know if it works for you.

I've been experiencing the same exact issue which I been trying to resolve for weeks. I've tried multiple versions of Foxit Phantom Business, including all (supposed) solutions I could find on the Internet. From unregister/register vbscript.dll , to Reinstalling Java, to Disabling Print Spooler, to Permission Changes and Nothing Works. A lot of (potential) users are experiencing this issue. The way I been bypassing (at the moment) is ending the Install when the Error Message comes up, which works perfectly but unfortunately that's temporary because its becomes a suspended install and eventually uninstalls when installing (certain) new applications.

Interestingly when you look in the Registry it does seem to install PhantomPDF Printer properly.... The Installation ERROR occurs right after it installs the PhantomPDF Printer.

Note: Phantom PDF does seem to work perfectly even after force exiting the installer.

I need a solution, or I'm going to have to find alternative product to purchase for 20+ users.

      I'm running Windows 7 Pro, SP1

I suspect the previous Foxit Phantom Printer is not completely removed from your pc before you reinstall it, would you mind trying below steps to reinstall it?
1.Uninstall Foxit PhantomPDF manually by going to Add or Remove programs to remove it.
2.Delete the left files related to PhantomPrinter:
1)Go to Start->Printers and Faxes, select Foxit Phantom printer and delete it if it listed there.
2)Go to Start->Printers and Faxes, right click any blank field, select "Server Properties", choose "Port" item to check whether Foxit Phantom printer is listed there, if yes, delete this port.
        3)Please locate to C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3(or C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3), and delete
        fpmvpr_drv.dll
        fpmvpr_pnt.txt
3.Please reinstall Foxit PhantomPDF Business from below link:
        Foxit PhantomPDF Business5.1.2.0305 (32bits):

If this still not works, please help us to invest the issue by capturing below log file:

Please go to Start > All Program Files > Accessories > Command Prompt, in the run line, input [msiexec /i "xxxx.msi" /log c:\debug.txt] without the braces, for example:

            msiexec /i "C:\FoxitPhantomPDF501_Business_enu_Setup.msi" /log c:\debug.txt

Note:You should save the msi package under C drive, so you could follow above command.
After done, please go to C:/ driver, find the debug.txt and send to me.

BTW, what 's enviroment you are running, Citrix servers? and what's the OS?

I am also having install problem with PhantomPDF Business terminating the installation prematurely (reporting error code 2738)
The PhantomPDF printer seems to install, and be left behind after the install terminates.
              My OS is win7(x64)sp1.
I've gone through and tried the suggestions in the earlier posts in this thread to no avail.
I have uninstalled the Foxit Reader.
There are no other Foxit products listed in Control Panel as having been installed (so nothing to uninstall via the usual method)
The folder: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Foxit Software" is empty
There is no Foxit folder under "C:\Program Files"
I have deleted the "fpmvpr_*.* files but they keep returning after the each new aborted install attempt.
I have trolled the registry with regedit and removed all keys containing "Foxit"
I have been attempting installation using the following .msi packages
              FoxitPhantomPDF501_Business_enu_x64_Setup.msi
              FoxitPhantomPDF501_Business_enu_Setup.msi
              FoxitPhantomPDF545_Business_enu_Setup.msi
each terminates with the same error code 2738.

              Time to ask for help.
(All of the above is in the process of setting up a new computer.)

                You should
be in directory C:\Windows\System32 otherwise type: “cd c:\Windows\System32”

                Type the
two following commands one at a time: “regsvr32 vbscript.dll” and
"regsvr32 jscript.dll". Press enter after typing each command in the
text box – you should get a message box saying DLL has been registered. Once
you have entered both commands type 'Exit' to close the Command Prompt window.

                Run the
                installer again.

That did not work for me, nor did the solution mentioned in the blog:

The suggested methods for deleting the reg keys don't work as given because of win7 UAC 'features' :-(
However, taking the long way around, and manually editing the registry (with elevated permissions/ownership) I changed the misdirected InprocServer32 subkeys for vbscript.dll and jscript.dll to their appropriate locations in %windir%\system32 and %windir%\sysWOW64
This new computer came with a trial version of McAfee which had hijacked those keys under the HKLM hive and left them misdirected after I uninstalled McAfee.
Bottom line is that FoxitPhantomPDF Business is now installed; although after an unacceptably difficult process.
Thanks for the clues that led me through the installation.

PS- boo to the forums admins for the short time-out for staying logged in on the forum. It sucks to have to re-log-in after what seems like only a few minutes of reading and typing. :-(
and another boo for purging existing account after only a year of non-participation. I come when I have questions, the last was abt 18 months ago, and prior acct is gone. :-(

I'm not a profi in computer things, so I trust in software developpers that everything works.
I had the same notice while installing Foxit Phantom on my PC. I tried to follow the instructions but failed.
It's ridiculous that you are not able to programme a working installation and that the customers have the problems in installing your software. You are selling your products for a good price so I have the right to receive a working product. That's not ok what you are delivering here.

                        Hi Blabla,

After a further investigating on this issue, we suspect it was caused by some modules that missing from your Windows system. For this issue, First ensure you have the latest Windows Service Pack installed. If this doesn't solve the problem, follow these steps.
                        1. Check that the file 'framedyn.dll' is present on your system in the \Windows\system32\wbem directory.
                        2. If not, copy the 'framedyn.dll' file from another Windows computer to the \Windows\system32\wbem directory.
                        3. Right-click on 'My Computer' and select 'Properties'.
                        4. Click on the 'Advanced' tab followed by the 'Environment Variables' button.
                        5. Under System variables highlight the Path entry and click the Edit button.
                        6. Add %SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem; into the Variable value text box and click OK.
                        7. Restart your computer and install PhantomPDF again.

If this doesn't resolve, please do these:

                        1. Find the "Remote Restore Service" in the "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools\Services window.
                        2. Right click on it and select Enable to see if you are able to start it. If you get an error message, that demonstrate the system restore feature was streamlined.
                        3. Please copy the 'srclient.dll' file from another Windows computer to the \Windows\system32 directory. This will require the Windows package CD or ISO package to finish the install.

Please let us know if the solution mentioned above helps. Thank you.
