Foxit Reader for Ubuntu 15.04 - cannot open pdf links

I have just downloaded FoxitReader for Linux. As I teach students I have links to external files in the same directory as the document . When I click these links nothing happens. By contrast when I run the windows version of Foxit it responds by asking whether it should open the file or not. Regrettably that does not open the links either. The reason is that the filepath is preceded by a Z:

I cannot find a way around this either in the linux version or the Windows version.
