  • Just checking back to see if there is any news about supporting the classic toolbar again. For now, I've stopped updating all versions of Foxit. The ribbon UI is a piece of sh*t whether it is part of MS Office or any other software product.

    • The ribbon mode is frustrating. Having all those buttons, large and small, cluttering the interface and taking space from the documents is nonsense. Even more so considering that I won't use most of them and that the ones I use are in other tabs.
I'm not absolutely against the use of ribbon UI, but in a PDF reader it is useless. I would like to be able to take the few functions I use and put them in a small toolbar, that doens't take screen space from the document I'm using. Really, what's more important to the user: a nice (?) toolbar or the document that's open? What's better, giving the user a fixed UI or one that he can customize according to the way he uses the software?
And forcing the ribbon also doesn't make sense from a business standpoint. Why do you think people choose Foxit Reader over Adobe's? It's not because Foxit is more well known, it's not because it's easier to use. I, for one, started using Foxit because Adobe's reader was too cumbersome to use, but now it's Foxit that is bloating.
And now we have to "get used" to it. And we are also supposed to "find ribbon toolbar is way much better than the classic toolbar just like those users who likes Ribbon toolbar mode". Really? Is that what we are getting from the complaints? We are using it wrong? We can't appreciate all the hard work done?
From what I've seen here i have no hope the issue will be solved. Actually, I doubt they will even acknowledge there is an issue with the interface.
All of this makes me sad, for I have used and liked the software for a long time. I guess I'll have to go searching for a new PDF reader, but until the at least I can use an older version.

By the way, you should update your technical FAQ, because your software no longer has two toolbar modes.

      • As others have chosen Foxit Phantom over other options for various reasons, I too have chosen to pay for Foxit Phantom for a specific reason - we could hide all tool bars, including the navigation bar, and the Menu Bar with function keys. The result was that we only would have the window frame and as minimal a UI possible; frameless would be even better. This was great for having several documents open at the same time. After trying all the PDF readers/editors I could find, Foxit was the only one -- and now that's gone.

Is anyone else interested in this minimalism of the "Classic Toolbar?"

Must we be stuck forever with version 7.2.8 to have the minimal UI functionality?

Does anyone have a viable solution -- perhaps an alternative reader/editor?

        • Finally i removed one-toolbar optioned Foxit Reader and setup another free pdf reader. The new one is awesome; simple to use and has more space of reading, no ribbon, no cloud, no other detailed options. It is just like earlier Foxit versions... I have doubts whether i setup Foxit again. Thanks...

Hilarious, here we have another example of a company wishing they could change their customers. Well then I must accept that it's time for me to change - to another product developed by a different company, perhaps one with a less paternal marketing department.

If a software developer can't directly see the input from the end user, how are they supposed to develop anything?

All the mods have been doing here is being middlemen and posting cryptic reference numbers to some internal database. I have enough experience with internal support systems to know that behavior like this is usually just to quiet customers down and nobody actually sees said complaints because they're either never actually written, are filled with nonsense or are sent to a black hole and not read.

Indeed the mods have been paying attention to this thread, mostly for damage control.

Well it looks like the Foxit team wants to keep digging their hole deeper.

You're being rude and disrespectful, it's clear that you haven't read any of the 11 pages of this thread, or you just don't care. We've told you time and again that we refuse to use the Ribbon UI and that we're not going to get used to you trying to cram technologies down our throat that we don't want just because YOU think we should "get used to it."

I'm going to inform my customers to migrate from Foxit products to something else if the support team continues with disgusting behavior like this. You treat us like crap, you aren't getting our money. "Get used to" not having any customers left.

                • I'll stay with the older version until the classic toolbar returns. I tried the ribbon and thanks, but no thanks. It is a true jumbled mess.

                  • I disagree with the former comment. I believe that it is an interest of Foxit developers to produce something that the users will like.
At the same time, I still struggle to get used to the unpleasant ribbon - with no success thus far. I learned to live with it - not to like it. I still prefer Foxit over Adobe. May try again some of the other alternatives to see if they solved the problems causing me to stay with Foxit in the past (mainly - compatibility).

                    • Classic toolbar allowed detachment of search bar in order to maximize document viewing pane. Not with the new Ribbon, whose displayed search field is too narrow.

(BTW, FoxIT, is history and wildcards in search too hard in 2016?)

                      • Add me to the list of people who keep 7.2.8 and are totes unwilling to downgrade to 7.3 because of the ribbon. Seriously, ribbon interfaces are the second worst thing that currently exists in user interfaces, only behind windows 8's desktop/tablet schizophrenia.

Don't get me wrong, I'm able to endure ribbons if I have no choice at all; at my job I have to use MS Office and Adobe Reader. But there's no chance I'd ever get myself to suffer that willingly at home. For now I'll keep the last good version of Foxit until either you come to your senses and fix this mess, or I find another reader that is good enough.

Seriously, if you don't have enough resources to keep both the ribbon and a good, usable interface, then you should have DROPPED THE RIBBON in the first place! It's not that hard!
Paraphrasing Samuel L. Jackson, common sense, motherfucker! Do you have it?

prom version contains the promotion program Foxit PhantomPDF so customer can choose to install it for 30 days free trial, while FoxitReader728.1124_enu_Setup.exe is the clean package for Foxit Reader.

                            • Since the last update of the German version I am also missing the classic toolbar mode extremely.

The ribbon takes much too much place on the screen!

For my work I have to view drawings most of the time and on a wide monitor this is really annoying that the ribbon bar is so big.

Hiding the ribbon is no answer because you need many more clicks to do your work then.

                              Further, costumization is much harder.

Please give us back the classic toolbar and drop the ribbon! No one needs that!

Libre Office and Co. do better.

                              • I regged for this thread. Not only is the ribbon confusing, it doesn't have 1/2 the functionality I need as a PDF editor. I had to ADD font type and size after looking through the help file. Think on that a minute. What is right at the top of this very forum's post box?

Everything is in a different category and the bar is just way too big, taking up precious vertical real estate. The file menu now takes over the entire screen, trying to get to properties was even a chore. Didn't find a way to kill the "home" screen either.

I was using phantom from 2013 and it served me great for 3 years bugs and all... so much for deciding to upgrade. Happy that I can still download 7.28 get some useability back. Your enterprise customers ate this up?
